The Rochester Police Department’s “entire command staff” announced their retirement on Tuesday, the mayor there said, amid raging protests over the death of Daniel Prude, the black man who was killed while being subdued by city cops while he suffered an apparent breakdown.

Chief La’Ron Singletary, a 20-year veteran of the force, and Deputy Chief Joseph Morabito, who served the department for 34 years, released statements moments before a scheduled briefing with Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and the City Council about last night’s demonstrations.

During the meeting, Warren told council members that “the entire Rochester Police Department’s command staff has announced their retirement,” adding that Deputy Chief Mark Simmons was also stepping down.

“There may be a number of others who will decide to leave as well and retire,” Warren warned.

Good for them. Retire before they get hurt by some molotov wielding mental case who thinks he’s in Serbia.

I wish them all a very happy, restful and relaxing retirement. Thank you for your service, men and women of Rochester PD

Wait ‘til white liberal ‘elites’ get bored with blacks - just like they got bored with ‘the homeless’... and dropped ‘em like a hot potato...

If the black community is smart, they’ll vote for Trump and stop being such gullible fools for democrats.

Right now while officers are dying on our nation’s streets
and being beaten, kicked in the head, hit with flying bricks
and the like... why don’t you explain how you’d like to see
their salaries and benefits eliminated in part.

We have police chiefs trashing their officera acting within
department policy. We have Mayors and city council members
defunding departments (officers) across the nation. We have
officers be charged with murder.

Now is the time you want to go after salaries and benefits
too?

Good freakin grief.

Who the hell has these officers backs, if you think what
you are advocating should be adopted by everyone?

Everything problem you mention is caused by government, bad government, corrupt government. What people fail to recognize is that the police themselves are part of that same government. I was just pointing out that these officers “retired” during a crisis at age FORTY. Now this city is out police officers while they pile on to their financial obligations. Shortly they will be screaming they need more money to hire more officers. Our tax money needs to go to government employees who are working not to those that retire at 40-55 years with the obligation to pay them for the next 35 years.

Government everywhere is too big, too bloated, too powerful and too corrupt. The police unfortunately are part of that same government.

I’m not going to join in going after police officer’s salaries
and benefits.

We want to attract the best career professionals we can get.

If one community doesn’t, another one will.

I don’t think you want the police in your community to be
bargain basement decent department rejects. I know my
family isn’t something I’m going to chance to people who
were being paid mediocre salaries and benefits.

It’s a career, not something that someone does until they
get a “good job”. It’s not supposed to be an entry level
position.

If you want to talk about obscene, look at the salaries of
sanitation department employees.

Officers and Fire, they’re the backbone of the community.

The quality of your town will depend on these two
departments.

This is what I'm saying. You can't pay high salaries at the same time provide for very early retirement or retirement at all. If you want a high working wage you have to provide for your own retirement. That's the way economics works in the real world. In the example the officer that retired at 40 will likely collect a pension for the next 35 years, after working only 20. There is no way to pay high working wages while paying a huge base of pensioners. This is a problem with all government. We have allowed them to create a system where they get paid as much as they would in the private sector plus fully fund a lavish retirement available often at very early ages.

We would be far better off with police being paid more money up front while they are working and leaving their retirement up to them just like it is in the real world.

There are of course many more problems that have brought about the current situation with law enforcement. This is just one that jumped out in this story of sudden mass retirement.
