Trump erases Biden’s lead in Texas, as Hegar chips away at Cornyn’s edge in Senate race

Texas remains a toss-up in the presidential race. But Democrat Joe Biden’s modest – and somewhat startling – lead over President Donald Trump has evaporated in the last two months.

From a 5-point edge in early July, Biden now lags Trump by 2 points among likely Texas voters in a poll released Sunday by The Dallas Morning News and University of Texas at Tyler.

Trump’s lead is 48-46.

That turnaround is sure to gladden the hearts of Republicans, who have no hope of controlling the White House without Texas.

But as Trump has clawed his way back into contention just in time for the post-Labor Day sprint, Sen. John Cornyn has lost ground against Democrat MJ Hegar. His lead now stands at 11 points, down from 13 in early July.

They say it might be close in Minnesota. If so, it’s not even close in Texas.

Yes. I see Biden adds here.

Hegar has some very good adds. You’d never know she is a sleaze bag.

Coryn, I think still win

The article describes an 11 point lead for Cornyn as “losing ground” (2 points). What bs.

here’s why they are spending in Texas-it’s the block voting , the increasing demographic or ethnic block voting of Hispanics, (& Asians and Blacks) for Dems-

Without the block voting of African American’s (93% + for Dems+ but especially now Hispanic Americans-approaching 70%,) CA would still be the state that elected Reagan governor . At Least Hispanics don’t vote 90% dems

Just look at the states won by Trump,he won 32 states but only 4 have a population of Hispanic voters over 13%. Clinton by contrast won 28 states and only 5 had a Hispanic population of under 13%.

This demographic shift and resulting voting trend is what is going on in early stages in Texas, Nevada, Az, Fl and Colorado which is now over 20% Hispanic and now a dem state, Nevada over 29% and voting solidly blue.

Four years ago, Trump carried Texas by 9 points.

Two years ago, in a Democratic wave election, Sen. Cruz was re-elected by 3 points, while Gov. Abbot was re-elected by 13 points.

Cruz was massively out-spent by his rival, Beto O’Rouke, $80 to $40 million. in addition, Cruz had some divisions within the Republican Party, related to the bruising contest for the party’s nomination in 2016. Still, Cruz won.

Abbot, on the other hand, had a very weak Democratic opponent.

This poll (Dallas Morning News/U. Texas-Tyler) is R+5, whereas the 2016 Exit Poll was R+9. While both are samples, the Exit Poll is - post election - doped so as to match the vote. (Post-election doping distinguishes “the” Exit Poll from the so-called election night “raw” numbers, which are still just a poll.)

So, Trump’s lead in Texas, at this time, is more like 6 points than the 2 points registered in this poll. With continuing improvement in the economy and on the pandemic, it is probable Trump will replicate or exceed his 2016 margin of victory.

Texas continues to be a sink hole for Democrats. The more they commit resources to pursue their fantasies about this state, the less resources they’ll have for the true battleground states where this election will be decided. Our Texas brothers must Get Out The Vote so we win this state with minimal resources from the outside, and so we win the many important down ticket races that are up for grabs.

How can you erase something that didn’t ever exist?

Texas might not give Trump a 20-point win (which is disappointing as Hell), but he will get a solid win here again.

Does anyone seriously believe that Biden ever had a lead over Trump in Texas? That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the polls this year.

ugh I can not stand that MJ hager. She tried to unseat my congressman in 2018 John Carter but did not succeed. So now she wants to be a senator and is gunning for Cornyn.

She is just your run of the mill lefty woman just like the rest of them. It’s funny how the republicans seemed to get picked off by liberals but liberals like Pelosi and Mad maxine never have to worry about their seats.

“But Democrat Joe Biden’s modest – and somewhat startling – lead over President Donald Trump has evaporated in the last two months.”

Should read: “....Joe Biden’s imaginary lead over President Donald Trump has evaporated.. “
