A school district near Buffalo, N.Y., delayed the beginning of its school year on Friday for students learning remotely, releasing a statement blaming the move on dozens of resignations and sick leave requests from teachers in the district.
In a statement released Friday, the Williamsville Central School District said that students learning remotely or through hybrid models would see their school years delayed indefinitely. Those returning to in-person hybrid learning models would apparently see their classes start on Tuesday.
The statement blamed the decision on 90 school employees who requested sick leave absences due to COVID-19, as well as the resignations of more than 100 employees.
"Delaying the start of our fully remote online learning model is currently the best path forward," said the district's superintendent, Dr. Scott Martzloff.
Officials from the Williamsville Teachers' Association blasted the superintendent's statement on Twitter, noting that only six members of the district's teaching staff had resigned and pointing out that the number also included dozens of retirements the district was notified about before March of the last school year.
"So we are expected to believe that four teachers retiring and six teachers resigning in the past five months causes the district to be unable to provide remote learning?" reads a statement from the union.

100 resignations - that could be a good move. Some of those lefty teachers need to be replaced.
Hire degreed veterans, and let them teach while getting teachers credentials with full pay because they are veterans.
Stop paying the clowns and give the money per student to the parents to find private schools or charter schools.
You cant have governors and mayors sending people to their deaths in nursing homes, and keeping businesses shut down all over the country in Day 178 of Two Weeks to Flatten the Curve ... and then expect anyone with an IQ over 40 to take their word for it when they say its safe to go back to school.
Politicians have clearly shown they can't be trusted when it comes to this Wuhanic Plague.
On a related note, the non-government experts will likely need to expose the fraud for what it was which needs to lead to criminal charges against the Communist Democrats who pushed this in an attempt to force productive states to bail out failed Democrat states. If they're not held accountable, they'll do this again and again.
Additionally, without laws on the books limited what these frauds can do when it comes to mass health hysteria, all employees need to be protected by labor law from entering a workplace that neither the employer nor the state can currently determine is safe. If I can't smoke at work because it's dangerous, how can I be exposed to the Wuhanic Plague? (Of course this is all just to force these Democrat government seditionists to be called out).

Hey,
I stayed at a
Best Western last night.
Either CCP virus is a ‘hoax’ or it's real. If it's a ‘hoax’ there is zero chance teachers would get it. If it's ‘real’ then social distancing and hygiene should work to mitigate any risk. Especially since Cuomo told his bed-time buddy Fauci to say that children who carry CCPVirus aren't contagious.
These nitwits in elected office and government bureaucracies have no control over the ramifications of their stupid fear-mongering and irrational, subjective shutdown orders.
Back when this whole fiasco started, I said the biggest problem would be that millions of Americans would feel unsafe going back to work ... and these government bureaucrats gave them every reason to stay home indefinitely.
Grocery store workers should be dropping dead in the aisles.

This is about virtual school being delayed because teachers refuse. They wouldnt be anywhere near the kids.
My children are learning almost nothing in their online classes. And they are definitely learning nothing about social interaction and making friends. The teachers’ union is to be vilified for this.
30 year teacher here. Our district had it’s 5 before kids start teacher days. I’ve never seen so much: crying, screaming, carrying on, threats that they’d stay home, threats of resignation, begging to stay home...I was dumbfounded. These new millennial teachers are either the biggest/dumbest sheep on the planet or they are the best actors in the world. Finally our district went totally remote and they still cry about it because we are forced to report to the building site to do our Zoom classroom. Babies.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Check out K12 or other online homeschooling. If they’re going to be at home, they might as well have professionals teach them. Some districts pay for it, as it costs less than the per pupil funding, and the district keeps the overage.
Thanks! I’ll look into it.
