Great old trip down memory lane. I have lots of great memories from back then. At the Treason is the Reason post-rally party I debated the second amendment with Christopher Hitchens over scotch. Hard drinking and arguing! Met so many great Freepers there and at other events. Race Bannon, Laz, Physicist, Kristin, Conniehair, DrRaoul, John Fund, Mike Huckabee, AnnaZ, Lurker, ELS....

Other great characters and contributors from back then - Mudboy Slim, Registered (who created the cover for my long-forgotten book “Citizen Clinton”), Incorrigble, jethrotull, and scandalous freepers like Deep in the Hurtgen Forest, Michael Rivera, ClassyGreenEyedBlonde (LOL!)

Other non-friends who showed up back then like Jeffrey Toobin (AWriter) who was a total dick and Village Voice writer Ron Perlstein who was willing to come here and defend his VV articles.

If I recall correctly, Text entry was slow, tedious to use, lacking in automated search and replace and very hard on the biceps to use, and limited to one pane of text... unless one got the upgraded Windows 73 XT multi-pane Version .

And no reminiscing is complete without remembering the brilliant Barbara Olson, a freeper who died on Flight 93 on 9-11.

It's good to remember the influential people who were active here.

One clarification: Barbara Olson died on American Airlines flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon.

United Airlines Flight 93 ("Let's roll!") was the one retaken by passengers and crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Great article! Kudos and thank you to Jim and family... Everything came together simultaneously in 1996,.. my first computer, FoxNews, FreeRepublic and DrudgeReport... two sold their soul... Jim did not. We could add Freeper Barbara Olson above. God rest her soul. Wife of Ted Olson... on Flight 77 into the Pentagon on 9/11😢 Back in the day, Freepers here from all over the country who knew the news before it was news. I lurked for years before I finally joined, but that enabled me to soak up HTML lessons. The "god" of posts of late in this regard go to DoughtyOne whose daily COVID19 statistical posts are the best around.

I also bookmarked this fantastic 'tips on how to be a good FReeper' post. Here are a few choice ones:

Any article posted about guns being used in a crime, be sure to ask what caliber gun was used and berate the author for leaving out that very relevant fact. If the good guy shot at the bad guy and missed, tell everybody that he needs more range time. Helpful also to mention what an excellent marksman you are. Post a picture of one of your guns for extra points.

...let folks know that you don't own a television set anymore and haven't since 1967. If you can't get that in, you'll just have to wait for a thread about the MSM to post it. Don't even hint at the fact that most articles posted here are from the MSM.

A "noob" or "Newbie" is a member who has been here one day less than you have, an old timer has been here at least one day longer. Noobs opinions don't mean very much because they all started forming their political philosophies the day they signed up here.
