A Virginia man lost his job with a leading national naval manufacturer after refusing to take off his Trump 2020 hat at a safety meeting prior to a shift, according to local reports.
Dave Sunderland spent about eight years working at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, which is the only manufacturer of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and one of just two firms that produce nuclear-powered submarines.
Despite company policies prohibiting campaigning and political clothing, Sunderland told the Daily Press newspaper in Virginia that hed worn Trump hats over the past few years without incident and had seen others wearing clothing with Democratic and progressive slogans.

I am going to guess the union lawyers are going to have a field day.

Wonder if he could come to work with a Trump Pence bumper sticker.
It allowed extensive prior use of political clothing in prior months and years, both for this and other employees.
“It allowed extensive prior use of political clothing in prior months and years, both for this and other employees.”
If true, they set a precedent and could be SOL on this one. They can announce that from this day forward, the policy will be enforced, but this guy should be safe considering the precedent.
Neutrality is pretty much expected on many jobs, I’d guess. Out
the gate and then you are not on company space or time.
The NFL says hello.
They did and gave him plenty of opportunities to remove his hat, but he refused.
He was being insubordinate and his hard-headedness cost him his job. Doubt he'll find someone to take his case unless he can demonstrate that people are currently wearing Biden/Harris ball caps to work without censure.
Sad but true. I can't blame employers for wanting politics left outside the workplace. All I ask is that these policies are equally enforced. No Trump hats means no Biden hats and if Thin Blue Line apparel is off limits, then BLM stuff better be off limits as well.
Yep some sports aren’t one of the many by far.
i hope HE has a GoFundMe.
Sue them back into the stone age, sir.
I was just wondering: Has anyone seen a media report from any alphabet channels citing that an employee anywhere has been fired for wearing anything labeled Biden? There has to be a balance somewhere.
That is quite true, but do you see the subtle trap inherent in such logic?
Thin Blue Line apparel represents one of the basic moral principles of our civilization - law and order. That principle has no political features; nothing that men should disagree about or even campaign and vote against.
We see everyday across the nation what BLM stands for.
Who would be offended by a "Support Your Local Sheriff" hat? Should wearing such a hat in the workplace give another the "right" to wear a hat that advocated violence?
This reminds one of the airline that wouldn't board a federal employee while wearing a flag symbol for fear it would offend someone.
WE ARE THE ENEMY, GET IT? Now with this information its time we fightback hard
If this guy has proof that others wore democratic gear, hes going to win big. Otherwise, hes just a guy who thinks he can do what he wants regardless of company rules. We will see.
Easy... Just line up everyone with a single-digit IQ and check their apparel...
The salon owner yes! This guy? No way!
It used to be considered good manners to take your hat off when indoors. It wouldn’t matter what kind of a hat it is. I think a safety meeting unless conducted outdoors might fall under good manners to take your hat off. Not taking off your hat would be considered rude. I don’t wear hats, unless outdoors because they help with solar radiation which can be harmful. Actually solar radiation is more harmful than COVID to most people. Baseball style hats or caps are useless for sun protection.
