We just wanted to take the time to provide your community with some feedback, as tourists and visitors who have loved coming to visit Coeur d'Alene (CDA) in the past. This visit we have had a very different experience. We hope you will take our observations as constructive, with the intent of helping you to understand what visitors like us may be observing and feeling.
My husband and I are from Arizona and have been driving up the coast of California, Oregon and Washington, doing our best to socially distance while enjoying the beauty of nature. Our experience has been positive in about nine out of 10 places we have visited. Cities and stores have been diligent in keeping us safe with mask requirements and social distancing ordinances. The majority of people in the towns we have visited were considerate and observed the mask and social distancing mandates.
We are now in CDA and have been shocked with the lack of regard for our health and the health of others from both the people living here and the businesses we have visited. At the Harvest Foods we were one of the only people wearing masks, even though the sign out front said to please wear a mask when entering.
...we now have a whole different view of CDA than we did in our past visits, and will be leaving town earlier than planned and probably never return. When we think of CDA, instead of picturing your beautiful lake and the cute town, we will now be picturing a town with a disregard for safety and human life.

Local news had on this couple (who didn’t want to be shown) that went to a local bar/restaurant (FL coast) around 11:30 PM on a Friday night. It was packed, no masks except for workers, they were complaining (shot video) that no one was social distancing and no masks. They were scared so they left.

Well, "bad" is a relative term. I live north of CDA and south of a ski resort. So if you like snow, the winters are good. ;-)

The first major outbreak of Covid-19 in Idaho was in Sun Valley in early March after the members of a ski club from New York showed up and brought it with them. This leftard beyotch would have really had a meltdown if she had been in town when Antifa was scouting CDA and the local militia members showed up en masse downtown to put a stop to that crap.

Average Weather in Coeur d’Alene Idaho, United States

Sum,era are p.easant. We usually get one (maybe two) heat waves each summer where it’s in the mid to high 90s with a couple of 100s. Humidity is usually low and bugs are low.
It is overcast a lot in the winter, but there is LOTS of sunshine in the summer.
The people are fantastic — friendly, mostly very conservative, and very polite. The young people you meet are always great kids and very respectful of elders.

There’s a much bigger snow belt where Bill lives. It tapers off quite a bit the closer you get to CDA.
The Schweitzer Resort ski area near Bill can get 400 inches of snow in a good year so there is great skiing. There are about five ski resorts within 90 minutes of CDA and Schweitzer is the biggest and best.
It’s a great jumping off point to Glacier, Yellowstone, Banff, Lake Louise, the Canadian Rockies, and lots of great state and provincial parks.
That would have been hilarious! Imagine her walking down Sherman with hundreds of well armed and ready patriots on guard. She would have really wet herself.

My sister and b-i-l lived in CdA, and loved it for its independence and small town feeling, yet with nice amenities, and beautiful scenery. For men who love the outdoors, I can tell you that when my sister and her family moved to CdA, my b-i-l felt he had died and gone to heaven.
So, this story called to mind something my sister said about 30 years ago. CdA was growing rapidly and the locals were concerned over all the Californians relocating to Idaho. Their complaint: the newcomers would get active politically and try to pass new laws which would make Idaho more like California. It was a pet peeve of hers.
I still have 3 nephews living in CdA.
CdA still has that independence streak as does much of Idaho. But we are getting FLOODED with people fleeing the cities. The farmland on the Rathdrum Prairie is all getting plowed under for housing developments.
My Mom was born up the road in Sandpoint in 1927 and grew up further south in Potlatch. Her folks moved to Hayden north of CdA in 1966. I can tell you, Idaho has changed a LOT in 50 years.
Of course, when I was a kid visiting here in the 50s and 60s, the U.S. had 160 million people. It has doubled to 2020. The population of Idaho has grown a bit faster than the US as a whole, but it is really accelerating now.
Many locals are being offered insane prices for their homes, but they are asking “What good does that price do me? Where do I go?”
I guess she’s not familiar with the concept of “When in Coeur d’Alene, do as the Coeur d’Alenians do”.
Funny you mention that. Earlier today I was thinking of the old saw “When in Rome...” and how it fits her perfectly.
