We just wanted to take the time to provide your community with some feedback, as tourists and visitors who have loved coming to visit Coeur d'Alene (CDA) in the past. This visit we have had a very different experience. We hope you will take our observations as constructive, with the intent of helping you to understand what visitors like us may be observing and feeling.
My husband and I are from Arizona and have been driving up the coast of California, Oregon and Washington, doing our best to socially distance while enjoying the beauty of nature. Our experience has been positive in about nine out of 10 places we have visited. Cities and stores have been diligent in keeping us safe with mask requirements and social distancing ordinances. The majority of people in the towns we have visited were considerate and observed the mask and social distancing mandates.
We are now in CDA and have been shocked with the lack of regard for our health and the health of others from both the people living here and the businesses we have visited. At the Harvest Foods we were one of the only people wearing masks, even though the sign out front said to please wear a mask when entering.
...we now have a whole different view of CDA than we did in our past visits, and will be leaving town earlier than planned and probably never return. When we think of CDA, instead of picturing your beautiful lake and the cute town, we will now be picturing a town with a disregard for safety and human life.
Thanks for taking the time to read about our experience and how your town's decisions, or non-decisions, may affect tourism both now and in the future.

These visitors are spouting typical insane hysteria. Here's the daily case count in ALL of Kootenai County where Coeur d'Alene is located. Your chance of encountering an infected individual in your daily activities is close to ZERO.
OK, so what about COVID deaths in Idaho? There have been 372 so far. But surprise, surprise! They are all in the upper age groups:
But what about ER admissions? Aren't the Idaho hospitals absolutely overwhelmed with COVID emergencies? Nah, ER admissions for "COVID-Like" illnesses are below 1%:
"...a town with a disregard for safety and human life"
-- let that be a warning to everybody! DO NOT come to Coeur d'Alene. We have no regard for safety and human life here! None!
Karen and her husband on vacation
CDA folks ought to respond in mass - “don’t slam the gate on the way out, and PLEASE do not come back”.
Car load of Karen’s ordering America to be Karen.
The mask is not a condom, it stops nothing. Maybe all visiting Karens should be required to wear hardhats with a rotating red becon lite that the rest can keep our distance.
Yeah, good luck with that “Don’t come here.” theme. Someone “shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die!”. ‘They’ still showed up. :-)
“Karen and her husband on vacation”.
Are you sure the ‘husband’ was a he?
;-)
Masks are a waste of time...looks like I will stop there on my road trip to SD......
LOL! Our small museum is located 12 miles east of Zion National Park. Our statistics are similar to Coeur d’Alene. We get mask wearers daily walking around our 50 acre property. Their chance of being hit by an eagle or a mountain lion is greater that the stupid virus. Course rattlesnakes won’t give a damn if they’re wearing a mask.
Was this really worth a letter to the editor and what/how does this person paralyzed by fear, yet out on a roadtrip through multiple states, believe residents in CDA care about her opinion?
An astute FReeper posted here recently that “masks are a propaganda campaign to re-educate you that your freedom is SELFISH.”
She is Exhibit A.
Good. Don’t come back.
Excellent idea! New meme material here.
If anyone ever wondered why everything is plastered with a warning label and/or sticker..
How else would these Arizona tourists have lived long enough to survive the trip to Coeur d'Alene, where they discovered a hazardous place of un-safety?
How many people read their letter and decided that Coeur d'Alene would be a great place to visit? Helpful!
I know. Who in their right mind would take the time to write such a piece of tripe while on vacation and take a place to task like that without accounting for how the locals act and believe? It is so arrogant and presumptuous of them. It isn’t hard to tell which way they vote.
It also says a lot about the Coeur d’Alene Press to publish it. It’s a very liberal paper in a conservative mecca.
Even worse, in the print edition they didn’t print it as merely a reader letter. Nosiree...they made it a Guest Editorial and printed it as a whole article!
Aside from the mask thing anyone who travels anyplace should not be critical of the customs of the place they are visiting. Rude.
.
Rude, indeed.
It was VERY rude of them to take to the road this summer. They might be infected and could be spreading their illness all over the west on their travels.
If they really cared about others, they would have stayed in their basement hunkered down for the long haul until the “All Clear” is sounded.
It is true irony.
I (the writer) am driving through multiple states and I came to visit your city, where there are VERY few cases, and I am going to take you to task for not wearing a mask.
Who is really more at risk to spread the virus? The person who has been all over the map or the resident who is in a city with few cases?
Here is the problem for Coeur d’Alene (CDA), these people come from out of state and fall in love with the beauty of CDA and move there. They then vote for the same crap policies that led them to move in the first place.
