Thanks To Coronavirus Panic, 1 In 10 American Families Is Now Home-Schooling

Gallup released the results of a new poll on K-12 education last week, reflecting the post-COVID-19 landscape. Entitled “K-12 Parents’ Satisfaction with Child’s Education Slips,” the summary buried the lede in the bullet points: “[P]ercentage of K-12 parents homeschooling this year has doubled, to 10%.” You read that right. Gallup’s data suggests that, since last year, the home-school community in America has doubled in size. One in every 10 families with school-age children is now home-schooling.

The poll was careful not to conflate remote public-school instruction with true home-schooling. “Will your oldest child attend public, private, parochial, charter school — either in person or remotely — or will they home-school this year?” Gallup asked. “By ‘home-school,’ we mean not enrolled in a formal school, but taught at home.”

The intellectual growth of a 2020 child is inversely proportional to the time spent with a publik skool “eddikator”.

Public schools are a 19th century paradigm that outlived its usefulness in the early 21st century. It’s primary functions today are as a jobs program for over educated college graduates and daycare for parents that have sold themselves into indentured slavery.

And marxist child indoctrination.

Homeschooling will clean up that mess in short order. And thanks to stuff like Khanacademy.org, it is easy to homeschool and get your kid to full graduation by the time they are twelve, without destroying their desire to learn, as public schools tend to do.

The education industry has made the argument that kids need to be in the classroom forever. Now they argue against it.

My opinion has always been that we will never “get the country back” unless the schools/education process can be freed from the indoctrination, not education, that has been taking place. The Left controls teacher’s unions, the (mostly crappy) public schools, and upper levels of education, which is infested with Leftist professors, etc.

Education has gone far afield from reading, writing & arithmetic. Our poor city school(s), under the influence of a Dementiacrat Mayor & Governor, are now adding black history classes ... this, when the kids can’t read, write, or do math.

I welcome this exodus from Leftist indoctrination into home schooling situations. Schools have turned into baby sitting centers for working parents .... parents need to be responsible for what their kids learn and kids should have the morals/values of their parents, not that of Dem/Prog/Leftist “teachers”.

My mom was a teacher - a good one. There ARE good teachers, etc. trying to work within the corrupt system; however, as a whole, I think education needs a major makeover, to be true education again. BTW, a lot of kids going to liberal colleges should be in technical schools, learning a skill that will earn them a real living, rather than defaulting to being a Star Buck’s employee when they can’t find work with essentially useless degrees.

Sorry for the rant - this is a hot button topic for me.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

What a wonderful unintended consequence. How the scales will fall from the eyes of so many people. I’m truly sorry for the difficulties the schools and teacher’s union have put innocent Americans through but am delighted with the opportunities that will unfold from it.

PARENTS Monitor the remote learning aspect. Many teachers in school systems are following their marching orders indoctrinating your children with this white privileged racial inequality diversity garbage and the teachers are upset that the parents are able to listen in and realize the depth of this re programming

HOMESCHOOL PING

This ping list is for articles of interest to homeschoolers. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping List. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added or removed from either list, or both.

The keyword for the FREE REPUBLIC HOMESCHOOLERS’ FORUM is frhf.

That really blew up in their faces.

There's nothing homeschoolers could do to convince the general public to that degree to homeschool their kids.

And the left, who hate homeschooling, managed to do it. Good work guys.

The stigma of home schooling has been removed since so many states (and countries) moved their learning on-line.

As this scamdemic clearly shows that you can work hard, do everything right, and some bureaucrats can lock it all down and destroy your livelihood, why play their game? Time to reassess what's important to your family and wasting time in school of Leftist programming is not high on that list.

Parents working remotely lessens the demand for "school as a taxpayer funded daycare".

When the Communist Democrats pushed the Wuhanic Plague propaganda that "anyone can die from this terrible plague and you likely will", parents want to spend more time with their families.

As "leaders" have shown they either don't have any answers in the face of such an Armageddon-like world-ending disease, or that it's been a scamdemic to force a bailout of failed Communist Democrat states, parents realize they're going to need their own support network to find out answers.

If the streets are not safe from protests riots, how could parents let their children out among the hordes of the mentally ill?

Many parents watched their children exceed the dumbed-down curriculum on their own and want them to continue.

Parents can no longer deny how the radicals and other losers have infiltrated the education system.

Budget cuts, especially in failed Communist Democrat states, will contribute to a lower quality public education.

...and the commie teachers unions despise this because it means fewer kids are being indoctrinated in uber-left radical thinking. Yet, they are also demanding not to reopen the schools because of COVID. Win-win.

It’s primary functions today are as a jobs program for over educated college graduates and daycare for parents that have sold themselves into indentured slavery.

And marxist child indoctrination.

That’s a pretty broad brush. Unfortunately it’s a pretty valid description of what is not just in large cities but small ones as well. They are being run by State Departments of Education, heavily influenced by the Federal Department of Education, and clueless and complicit local school boards.

It took a long time to get to this point. I’m not sure the change will be overnight, but home school is a better alternative, by far than the ever more expensive public school “system” that owns millions of homes in States where property tax in the primary means of funding for Education.

On a side note, somewhat related, the State I am proud to live in, is funding six higher education Colleges or Universities, four technical schools and schools for the blind, and deaf. All in a State with less than a million population. That is insanity in my opinion. A goodly portion of the colleges have barely more than two thousand students.

The stigma of home schooling has been removed since so many states (and countries) moved their learning on-line.

Perhaps more importantly, parents thrust into HSing in Feb/Mar were aided by HSing families online and elsewhere. In turn, the lie that HSing families are all anti-logic right-wing wacko racist religious zealots who watch TV all day was shattered...parents saw first-hand that HSers not only, well, go to school at home but they're not weirder that the rest of society.

The 10% metric, if it is legit, is a good thing...I'm more hopeful that most of the other 90% of Americans are now less swayable the next time some Stasi-like bureaucrat or Harvard lawyer wants to regulate homeschoolers.

I see higher education as the next big bubble to pop, and that was before the CV19 nonsense. My small town is what it is because it is home to a small university. Take that away, and it mostly shrivels up, like its neighbors.

But for me it just means I’d have to drive a bit farther to a hardware store. And since I practically live off Amazon Prime, that would be about the only impact for us.

Good news. There are lots of support and sharing groups. Kids learn their own parents’ values. It is very do-able on a tight budget with a library card and virtual classes. Kids learn real life skills. I cannot say enough good things about this trend.
