Santa Cruz County to close beaches for Labor Day weekend(The Aliens must think we are too stupid to talk to)

SANTA CRUZ — Beach closures are coming back to Santa Cruz County for Labor Day weekend as officials decide to take another crack at keeping crowds off the sand.

Beaches will be closed from 5 a.m. Sept. 5, to 5 p.m. Sept. 7 — except for an open period from 4-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The closures come under an emergency regulation unanimously approved by county supervisors Tuesday.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office plans to increase patrols and “proactively” enforce the closures, according to spokeswoman Ashley Keehn. Compared to the prior closures, Keehn said the additional clarity around when beaches are open and closed should help with enforcement.

“We will have deputies that are dedicated to the coastal areas where we often see visitors for these long holiday weekends,” Keehn said.

The county’s health officer, Dr. Gail Newel, first ordered beaches to close across the county May 2. She rescinded that order before the Fourth of July because it was so widely ignored that enforcement had become impossible.

“People are not willing to be governed anymore in that regard,” Newel said at the time.

Because the county has an emergency declaration in effect, those caught flouting the closures can be charged with a misdemeanor under the Emergency Services Act, according to county spokesman Jason Hoppin. Penalties can range up to a $1,000 fine and six months behind bars.

Capitola City Manager Jamie Goldstein said that the Capitola City Council will consider an identical beach closure plan Aug. 27.

my only impression of Santa Cruz is from when I visited UC Santa Cruz 3 decades ago.

There were 3-4 hippies (men) playing frisbee on one of the campus’ big open lawns. They were completely naked and tripping on LSD.

“People are not willing to be governed anymore in that regard,” Newel said at the time.

Yea, rioting Antifa and some Blacks avoiding cops don't listen too well either.

But if you want to riot and loot it is ok. Just yell “black lives matter” every now and then.

It's Santa Cruz, people are going to go to the beach, and they won't do anything about it. She did her job, and that's all she can do.

They tried to closed the beaches and the parks, but there's nothing they could do.

CA is so loaded with leftist control freaks. These people are just not happy unless they can control your every move. And it’s always punitive threats if ya don’t obey and comply. Ya got armies of Nancy Pelosi’s in nearly every town.

I work in agriculture and live in Santa Cruz County. I work six days a week and every Sunday morning take my dog for a hike on the beach. It’s both mentally and physically a benefit for me. What the heck do I get in return for the taxes I pay.

Not a damn thing they can do.

I was at the Pacifica beach last Sunday. Very crowded, parking spaces unavailable. I don't see the difference in having it open now, versus closing it next weekend. It's the same air and beaches.

The beach don’t matter anyway. Last time I ever went to a beach in S. CA I felt like I had attended the U.N. General Assembly day at the beach. Couldn’t cook hotdogs, and didn’t dare drink a beer, cops driving around on ATVs looking for violators, etc.
