Steroids cut death rates among critically ill COVID-19 patients, major study finds

LONDON (Reuters) - Treating critically ill COVID-19 patients with corticosteroid drugs reduces the risk of death by 20%, an analysis of seven international trials found on Wednesday, prompting the World Health Organisation to update its advice on treatment.

The analysis - which pooled data from separate trials of low dose hydrocortisone, dexamethasone and methylprednisolone - found that steroids improve survival rates of COVID-19 patients sick enough to be in intensive care in hospital.

“This is equivalent to around 68% of (the sickest COVID-19) patients surviving after treatment with corticosteroids, compared to around 60% surviving in the absence of corticosteroids,” the researchers said in a statement.

“Steroids are a cheap and readily available medication, and our analysis has confirmed that they are effective in reducing deaths amongst the people most severely affected by COVID-19,” Jonathan Sterne, a professor of medical statistics and epidemiology at Britain’s Bristol University who worked on the analysis, told the briefing.

Wrong type of steroid. They are talking prednisone not dianabol.

This is a real no brainer.

It’s the body’s immune over response that creates the “Cytokine Storm” which ultimately creates the situation where the body literally drowns in it’s own fluids.

Decreasing inflammation and reducing the activity of the immune system prevents this.

Can I have my MD certificate now?

Better to not let matters get that far to begin with. Take hydroxyC and zinc early in the course. Safe, cheap and easy.

I’m on dexamethasone weekly. It isn’t any fun. So maybe I’m protected too. The one thing I know it does is kick my HDL up to +70.

I don't think the dose is high enough with Symbicort to do any good.

Take hydroxyC

I can't get it, so I'm taking Quercitin with zinc and vitamins C and D as a prophylaxis.

Being something of a smart ass myself I can tell you any number of times that I've outsmarted or correctly second-guessed the medical profession. But don't come to me for any medical advice. I'd probably end up killing you. :-)

Actually, I have read that those on those types of steroids seem to be doing well in this farce.

Cant remember were in the hell I read that now-which is another side effect of that crap.

According to Zelenko, this should give you pretty good protection. Also works as a treatment in the early stages.

Dr. Marik uses methylprednisolone and IV sodium ascorbate (vitamin C), and more. He’s been ignored, of course, just like doctors using HCQ protocol.

Indeed.

That’s the one issue with 90% of highly “educated” people.....They have a notorious lack of common sense.

If you ever find one that maintains a degree of common sense with all that education, they’re a definite keeper.

Yes, by the time the patient is in intensive care, the major “ailment” is the cytokine storm the immune system has mounted in an attempted all out assault on the virus. It is such an excess it winds up assaulting all sorts of body tissues with massive inflammation. Steroids have long been known to help calm that inflammation; EVEN FROM THE START of the “pandemic”.

The “study” funded some people with needless work, because doctors all over the world already knew what the “conclusions” of the study would be, because doctors all over the world have been incorporating steroids into their treatment of severe Wuhan Virus cases FROM THE BEGINNING.

If you ever find one that maintains a degree of common sense with all that education, they’re a definite keeper.

It's the nature of the education that makes them that way. Having to assimilate more information than my lazy mind could ever handle, and being positively obliged to conform to all the established rules in order to advance both educationally and professionally saps everything but knowledge and its acquisition completely out of them. I guess that's just the nature of the beast.

I guess a good comparison might be between modern cinema and that of fifty years ago and beyond. The earlier writers/directors relied on the time-tested elements of plot, theme, characterization and dialogue. Nowadays technical effects are so good that they're relied upon almost to the exclusion of everything that makes drama what it's supposed to be.

Schwepps tonic water contains 80 mg quinine per liter.

I have posted regarding the use of 3 liters of tonic water being slightly more than one Zelenko dose of 200mg HCQ.

I know of one covid-positive person who drank 3 liters of Schwepps tonic water for five days and also took the 220mg/day zinc, and 10G Vit C/day (instead of antibiotic). They were up and functioning with relief from the fatigue and dry cough within 16 hours of the first day’s dose of tonic water, and had smell and taste return within 72 hours.

This person is now delivering tonic water to other sick persons. In addition, as a cold virus is also a coronavirus, a family member of mine took the same for a cold, and was fully functional and back at work within 48 hours, noting that this was unusual.
