Former NSA chief wishes US had taken more action against Russia before 2016 election

The former head of the National Security Agency under President Barack Obama and President Trump says he wishes the United States had taken more action against Russian meddling prior to the 2016 election and claimed the country is better prepared in 2020.

Adm. Mike Rogers, who retired in 2018 after four years as NSA chief and commander of U.S. Cyber Command, spoke with NPR’s Mary Louise Kelly on All Things Considered this week, saying that “I wish we had taken, broadly, more action prior to the election itself” in 2016.

He said the U.S. was aware of Russia’s meddling efforts in the summer of 2016, even after Obama said in December 2016 that he pulled Russian President Vladimir Putin aside during an early September 2016 G-20 meeting and told him “to cut it out” and “there were going to be serious consequences if he did not.” Obama claimed that “we did not see further tampering of the election process” afterward.

But after warnings from Obama and others, the third volume of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s Russia report concluded, “Russia continued disseminating stolen emails, conducting social media-based influence operations, and working to access state voting infrastructure through Election Day 2016.” The committee criticized the Obama administration for being unprepared to combat Russia’s election interference effort and for fumbling the response, finding that “the U.S. government was not well-postured to counter Russian election interference activity with a full range of readily-available policy options.”

Senate investigators interview FBI agent who led Flynn portion of Crossfire Hurricane Rogers said that “once we saw then in the aftermath” of the Obama-Putin talk that “this activity wasn’t stopping, I wish we had taken more direct, more public action sooner, as opposed to doing so after the election itself.” The U.S. tossed nearly three dozen Russian operatives out of the U.S. the month after the November election.

When asked what sort of action he wished had been taken, Rogers said, “I would say enacting a price. Making them pay a price for the behavior as part of that.”

Some of us have good memories of other Obama quotes!

March 2012, Obama to Vladimir Putin's pet, Dmitry Medvedev, Russian seat-warmer President, in an (oops) off-mike remark to pass to Putin; "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility." (Negotiating missile defense)

2012 Presidential Election Debate on 23 October 2012, Obama vs Mitt Romney. President Obama made reference to an earlier speech given by Governor Romney regarding Russia; “without question, our No. 1 geopolitical foe”. He, Obama, then mocked Romney, saying; "You said Russia. And the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back. Because the Cold War has been over for 20 years."

Yep, Obama was really on the ball about any threat from Russia, sure was!

Rogers still pushing the Russian collusion nonsense?
Russia had about as much effect on the 2016 elections as any random polar bear n Siberia did.
The real collusion was the Hilary Clinton campaign using Fusion GPS and rogue FBI agents to manufacture a fake dossier which was then used to obtain FISA warrants to illegally spy on the Trump campaign. It makes Watergate look like kindergarten.
Why doesn’t Rogers talk about that?
Rogers can go screw himself.

More swamp bullshit. So Russia was doing everything the FBI said and they were just good little patriots trying to protect America. And the latest investigation will carefully whitewash it

The Senate report said that, not Rogers.

I think the criminality was that the entire Obama apparatus was using false or exaggerated intelligence information to open a criminal investigation into Trump. I know Barr has stated in the past that none of what he has seen was enough to start a criminal investigation into a political campaign for the presidency. There was no smoking gun, and the only bloody knife they found was in Trump’s back. Obama and Comey set the bar far too low because they wanted to spy on the campaign, hunt for anything that might be criminal, ruin Flynn, embarrass Trump with selective leaks to the media, delegitimize his election victory and ultimately destroy his presidency. They accomplished some of this but not all of this. In fact a strong argument can be made that the Democrats stole the House in 2018 with these false Russian collusion charges that blanketed the media 24/7.

So if they used lies, or facts they knew to be incorrect, or concocted intel, then Durham can prove criminality. We already have action and intent from Clinesmith, also from the Strozk text messages, and the notes about using Logan against Flynn. They made up evidence to wire tap Carter Page and thereby anyone he speaks with in the Trump campaign. They signed warrants with the knowledge that the applications were false.

This was a concerted criminal effort to destroy Trump, by the Obama Administration’s egregious abuse of the law enforcement arm of the Federal Government. They lied to judges, fabricated evidence, leaked lies to the press, and engaged in a massive disinformation campaign against anyone connected to Trump. It was a Soviet style KGB effort to destroy Democracy under the guise that “we all believe in democracy”, so we cannot just thrown them in prison but our fig leaf of cover will be these criminal charges that we invent. These have been like the 1930’s Stalinist show trials.

“Show me the man, and I’ll find you the crime” - L. Beria

I am amazed that Comey walks around like nothing happened, when he even admitted to Obama that Flynn’s calls to Russia were legit. Comey committed the crimes under a general order from Obama to “get Flynn” and thereby Trump. Comey signed the warrants, they were lies, and he has to be held accountable. He cannot say, “he didn’t know”, because that is not an excuse, (especially for a damn presidential campaign) and second of all, he did know. This is what Durham is discovering in my opinion. How much they lied, what they knew and when they knew it, who were the overseas players that were dirty and fundamentally that no real intel ever existed. It will be difficult because intelligence gathering is nebulous, so Durham has to lock down that it was all a lie, and not give them a speck of light that there was a hint of legitimacy in investigating Trump. That is not easy.

It is all a black stain on America that this has happened, but the obfuscation from the media has been wonderful for Obama’s legacy. The real students of history will see this, as each emerging fact is getting worse, and they will realize that this was a coup d’etat, which, disgustedly enough, the major media not only ignored, but willingly played along. (Even today, none of the media outlets even squeal about being used by Obama, his FBI and the corrupt intel apparatus, for spreading deliberate lies about innocent Trump personnel. They have forfeited their journalistic ethics in service to a corrupt Democrat Party, yet they don’t bat an eye.)

It may have been Divine providence that saved the nation because the forces arrayed against the truth were massive.

Have you noticed the lack of concrete examples of Russian meddling? Comments from Rogers to Congressmen are always generalized and vague when it comes to particulars. Just once I would like to see an article that demonstrated “the twenty ways Russia interfered in our 2016 election,” with nothing but specificity.

"It sounds like Durham was giving credence to the Russia meddling BS instead of going after the Justice department spying on a Presidential Campaign."

Are you incapable of reading entire sentences?

The second half of bitt's sentence reads:

"in the Connecticut prosecutor’s investigation into the Trump-Russia investigators."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The "Trump-Russia investigators" are/include the same cadre as the "Justice department spying on a Presidential Campaign."
You negative ninny noobs waste so much effort/bandwidth on trying to find something to bitch about -- that you are worse than useless in this campaign that is literally a fight for the survival of the USA.
WAKE UP!!!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Security_Agency
from link:
The NSA is also tasked with the protection of U.S. communications networks and information systems.[8][9] The NSA relies on a variety of measures to accomplish its mission, the majority of which are clandestine.[10]
Originating as a unit to decipher coded communications in World War II, it was officially formed as the NSA by President Harry S. Truman in 1952. Since then, it has become the largest of the U.S. intelligence organizations in terms of personnel and budget.[6][11] The NSA currently conducts worldwide mass data collection and has been known to physically bug electronic systems as one method to this end.
Can we assume the NSA would have some interest in China and China manipulating our elections? Why would we bother to collect massive amounts of information if it wasn’t to USE that information to protect our country?
