Zen in the Art of writing by Bradbury - a series of essays on the art and craft of writing - is also a very enjoyable book, whether one is an aspiring writer or simply as a motivational work. I would argue as enjoyable as Farenheit 451, if in a different way.
Weve lost a lot of literary giants. I feel like the current crop of writers is relatively paltry.
Something Wicked This Way Comes is one of my all time favorite novels. The Golden Apples Of The Sun is simply one of the very best short stories ever. But I would never call Bradbury a “science fiction writer”.
Bradbury ping! I miss him and and so many good writers drifting into the past. I miss bookstores and being lost in one for hours, completely content. I miss book lovers too.
I ended the school year in mid March last year with Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death”, so I can’t wait to begin this year with a unit reading of everything Ray Bradbury. My students always enjoy his short stories. Lots of great discussion. After all the scamdemic shenanigans, it should be a great place to start. Day 1 will be The Pedestrian!
Thank you for posting this! BFL.
I’m a greater fan of Larry Niven and Isaac Azimov.
