Twenty percent may be hired in order to train and maintain a 13-15% black workforce... 3% yellow Asian, 5% 3d teir India-ns, 45-48% white, and a sprinkling of South of the oarderers, and one Martian.

Lost getting a good job at a college in 1969 because I was told I was what they were looking for but I was the wrong color.

Boeing should expand its diversity training program. In fact forget about those planes. Concentrate on the diversity program. That is the real growth industry. Hiring based on skin color rather than competence could cause problems. Of course competence is a racist concept. The CEO should stick to washing feet as a less costly way of virtue signaling. There are black engineers. We could never have gotten to the moon if it were not for those female black mathematicians. I know thats true cause I saw it in a movie. Who knows? The planes may magically fly off in a cloud of exuberance and joy. Then again we are competing against the Chinese who sadly lack diversity.

Write that into the defense or Government contracts and then collude with the Contrac Agency folks to rewrite the tech specifications and requirements for 20%er’s.

Is this some sort of admission that they’ve been consciously underpaying blacks for many years?

You would think they should want an increase in QUALIFIED employees no matter what color of skin.
To: karpov
Get ready for the inevitable reverse discrimination lawsuits.
If Boeing wants to recruit QUALIFIED individuals to build planes, I suggest they recruit them from U.S. Navy and Air Force aviation repair sailors and airmen. They are plenty of black within those groups.
To: karpov
Well, that’s a twist. Who doesn’t want race normed AA hires engineering the aircraft they fly on? If it’s Boeing I ain’t going.

They will just add people to HR or create entire new departments for diversity or cultural sensitivity or whatever squidgy, useless thing they can dream up.
They will bring back in house heavily minority employee things they have outsourced like “environmental services” (janitors) and the company cafeteria.

"...the factory found racist symbols..."The fact they don't tell you what the "racist symbol" is implies it's something like a coffee mug with a decal of a Southern state flag.
If it was purposely left on the desk of a black employee, he has a right to be ticked. I'd be ticked if someone put up a Biden-Harris bumper sticker somewhere in my cube.

It’s all about buying time till they can pull the ripcord on their golden parachutes, as the company makes the Great Kaboom behind them.

Boeing will later say, "No, we weren't referring to ONLY black Americans; we were thinking of a 20% increase in 'People of Color'".
Since "people of color" includes South Asians, Boeing will ask for massive new H1B exemptions to fill these slots from India.

Boeing will handwave some black "engineers" and expect their colleagues to pick up their slack.
So very true.
A relative used to work for a company that repaired helicopters for the local army instillation(Fort Campbell).
The company who had the contract lost it to the new company who won the contract in part by promising to hire more minorities. The new company kept the most of the old employees.
Many of the new minority hires were hard workers but the relative got stuck with one of the bad ones. The new hire worked hard... for about two months then decided to play sick, show up late or didn't show up at all.(But he could play sports and chase after soldiers wives while they were in the field) Turned out he was being shuffled from one department to another and it was my relative's 'turn" to get him.
Why not fire this employees worthless ass? because of all the red tape and ruin the "quota" the company boasted of to get the contract.
My relative got tired of pulling the slack of the bum and after countless filed complains this relative got labeled as a troublemaker and yes, a "racist". Which was hard to stick as the other workers in his department were minorities too and they worked well with each other and they filed complains about the slacker "brother" as well.(They didn't like redoing the work he half-assed put together(wrong))
After a time, he quit.
The relative quickly got another non government job()albeit at a loss of pay, benefits but he is is happier. The company wasn't as happy as other workers quit their jobs and when contract time came up, they lost it.
But many helicopters that would have been available to the army in Iraq and Afghanistan weren't sent because they were not in condition to fly. (Can't put the hardware in before the bullet holes repaired and paint is done.)
Any fool(except Boeing CEOs) can see the future of it's business...
To: karpov
I don’t care if the employees are black or white. What I do care about is that they are talented and qualified to the point that air planes with hundreds of people on them don’t crash into the ground. It appears that Boeing only cares about Quota’s and that they have learned nothing at all. Maybe their business license should be revoked before they kill a bunch more innocent people due to incompetence.

The core mission of Boeing right now should be to restore brand loyalty and brand image. Anything that detracts from rehabilitating the company after the 737-Max and recent grounding of the 787 Dreamliner is not going to help the company, its employees, the public, or the

My friend was an engineer there there when early diversity hiring reared its head. The more diversity, the lower the quality of work became. So here comes more diversity, and she’s worried about what will happen to her pension.
