Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old suspected of fatally shooting at least two people and injuring another during protests in Kenosha over the shooting of Jacob Blake, has been arrested, according to local media reports.
Rittenhouse, 17, was arrested in Illinois and has been reportedly charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
My concern is what transpired before that.
Had he fired his weapon prior to that? If not, good luck getting any charge at all to stick.
What I saw was that the kid everyone has seen tripping or being knocked down and attacked had shot someone else at a parking lot or car lot a block or so up the street. My understanding is that he was supposed to be protecting the parking lot and had wandered off for some reason or possibly had been drawn to something else. As soon as he left the parking lot a gang of hoodlums came in and started wrecking stuff. At this point the kid came running back, chased by a "protester", and shot the person that had been chasing him in the head. Once he figured out that he was in a bad spot he took off running and that's where we get the pictures of him in the street being attacked.
Based on what I saw this kid is going to have an incredibly difficult time getting a jury to agree to self defense. I don't think the DA will get a first degree charge though to conviction but this kid isn't going to get off unscathed. It looks to me like he got in WAY over his head and will now pay the price.
I believe he was calling for police after the first shooting. Then I heard he tried to turn himself into a police armored vehicle and was told to get out of the street. All hearsay but it seems the kid was trying to do the right thing.
Wow, I was in high school at 17.
Kids nowadays are out rioting and killing.

He's 17 years old. Do you have any children? If so,would you let your 17 year old travel across state line, with a rifle, to a hot-bed of rioting and looting?

At 17 was he legally able to carry such a weapon as he had?

While many here say it’s over and done he’s toast I disagree. Thank God there is a lot of video. I think he has a very good chance due to our jury system.
It is true that the process is the punishment in the sense that having to deal with the aftermath is a very tough job. But like Nick Sandmann and the McCloskeys it needs to be turned around to the truth as in “why are we expected to live as the subjects of rioters? Where are the police?” Etc. This 17 year old is an absolute victim of the pro riot authorities and it should be framed as such.
If the governor and mayor had even halfway done their jobs none of this would have happened. We all know it.
For all who are willing to check out this video, since other versions seem to cut off the end. Watch until the end, the kid is walking to the police car with his hands-up trying to surrender. This doesn’t look like criminal intent to me. More like someone who ended up defending themselves and willing to cooperate.
He isn't even from Kenosha. He's from Aurora, Illinois. It's not like he was there to defend Grandpop's hardware store or Uncle Bob's car dealership.

When I was 17 (during the Reagan Years), I spent my summer getting hammered and chasing tail. Good times!
That being said, nobody was rioting.
Minimum age for possession in WI is 18. In IL he'd need an FOID, which requires parental permission if under 21, to possess or purchase. Presuming the rifle was his parents, they've got some liability. An unfortunate situation.
