You can see that he had something in his hand, which he had taken out of the back of his waistband, and then just as he goes to the car door, you can see him drop something on the ground and the cop behind him reaching towards it.
So he probably did have a knife, which he dropped so he wouldn’t be considered armed (he had a warrant on him, and this would have complicated it).
I don’t know what he was reaching for in the car.
I guess we’ll find out more, because the children and I think his girlfriend were in the car and would have seen it all.
