CDC guidelines say wearing a mask during prolonged exposure to coronavirus won't prevent possible infection

Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that those who come in close contact with someone with the coronavirus for more than 15 minutes could spread the virus regardless of whether either party wears a mask.

“Wondering what @cdcgov really thinks about masks? Their guidance on quarantining after exposure to someone with #covid explicitly states whether the infected OR exposed person wore masks doesn’t matter,” former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson tweeted Sunday.

“My mask protects no one. So does yours. Thanks for clearing that up, CDC!” he added, accompanied by screenshots of the CDC’s guidelines.

"N100 and P100 Masks for Protection against Avian Flu, Swine Flu and Other Diseases

The Centers for Disease Control tested N100 and P100 masks for their efficacy against avian flu, swine flu and other contagious diseases and found them to provide superior protection. Since N100 respirators and P100 respirators are capable of blocking the majority of airborne hazards, people often use them to prevent the spread of dangerous diseases."

This from a web page selling these masks.

"provide superior protection..", weasel words because even the 100 series is nowhere near complete protection from the china virus.

This is being spread through aerosols. The only mask that gives you some protection from inhaling aerosols in an enclosed environment with poor air circulation is an N-95 mask. We don’t have access to N-95s. I have an old one but it’s impossible to wear for any length of time.

These people who are standing next to one another in a grocery store, masked up but talking loudly or laughing, think they’re protected. They’re not. They’re spewing aerosols and the people near them are inhaling them.

Should say, “look at all my virtue signaling indicated by my face diaper”.

This must be why all the doctors and nurses who care for Covid patients stopped wearing ppe and why you can get N95 masks online in bulk so cheap.

You would be less likely to propose something that sarcastic with experience walking the odds between two opposing experts (it's a type of cost-benefit analysis).

The doctors and nurses are with patients much less then 15 minutes. And the concern is not so much the Kung Flu as it is secondary bacterial infections.

When people are close to each other and the concern is bacterial masks are helpful.

When people are spread out and the concern is viral the masks are stupid virtue signal.

Even in the hospitals they rarely require masks except in certain situations.

These are not politicians. They no longer gather and pass laws, they rule by edict and everchanging absolutist whims.

No singing in church!

Will a mask prevent me from getting the Chinese Death Plague if I spend fifteen minutes in a room with someone coughing from it? No. Will it reduce the odds? Yes, unless the air is so full of the Kung Flu that there is no way to avoid it.

Or - unless the mode of transmission is not airborne but oral-fecal in which case sharing food or bathrooms would be the culprit. Think of it - what do all the largest outbreaks have in common? The diamond princess, the navy ships, prisons, nursing homes, large gatherings that include aging and drinking....?

Humans are more closely related to snails than SARS-CoV-2 is to Influenza.

Seriously, droplets quickly fall to the floor where they are picked up by your shoes and you then track them throughout your home.
I’ve never judged a need to where a mask in my area, but I usually leave my shoes in my drafty foyer.

CDC is about useless, might as well use your own knowledge to make decisions. Masks can help in some situations- but not in most.

” standing next to one another in a grocery store, masked up”
Yeah, I’ve noticed masked people tend to approach closer then unmasked. IMO negates what protection they (and I) get.

"I am not wearing this mask for my protection, asshole, its for your protection." - but I live in a polite neighborhood. {;^) ]

Virtue signal much? What other acts of benevolence do you engage in that is of no benefit to you but only to protect others?

I’m curious to know where you get the defective one-way masks. What happens if you accidentally put it on backwards?

If it makes you feel better, I hereby relieve you of your duty to protect me. You can remove the mask now.

Well, sir or madam, you are running with what was clearly marked as a humorous statement and supposing I actually had and would wear such a tee shirt, which is a bit of a cheap shot.

What other acts of benevolence do you engage in that is of no benefit to you but only to protect others?
My list is certainly not as extensive as many other FReepers, but at least there is a list. How's your list?

I hereby relieve you of your duty to protect me.
Do you also relieve me of any effort I might make to protect any of your very young or elderly loved ones?

You can have the last word.

Who cares anymore? A virus is gonna do what a virus is gonna do and no one can stop it. Live well, be happy, be thankful..and Love the Lord 🥰

I just dont understand what is so hard to grasp about FREEDOM.

Let people decide, let businesses decide.

If some businesses want to go maskless, then the maskless can go there.. if others want to require masks those who love masks can go there!

Everyone wins!

For people who want to lower the population, if this china flu was actually really deadly, this wouldn’t have happened. They want high death counts. This is about control and stealing another election.

Oh my word could you be any more self-righteous? You don’t know me from Adam yet you’re gonna claim you care more about my loved ones than I do.

Are you one of those fictional Covid super-spreaders? If so then instead of going out into public with a virtue-signaling face diaper you need to quarantine your rear end at home. If not, what exactly do you think you are protecting anyone from?
