The first night of the Republican National Convention averaged 15.9 million viewers on Monday, a sharp drop of 28% from 2016.
The audience figure from Nielsen was also below the opening night of last weeks Democratic National Convention which averaged 18.7 million viewers over the three major English language broadcast networks and three leading cable news channels. TV? Who does that anymore?
Streaming is where it is at
Only because they were fed up with satellite companies ripping them off and went to antenna.
Are they counting the people who streamed? Fox cut in every chance they got. I got so frustrated that I watched on my phone.
Much like the 25+% down from 2016 for the DNC, huh, ironic you think?
I haven’t done TV on broadcast for over 10 years. I just read Internet news nowadays. TV? I can watch on the internet and pause when I please.
On a final note, wasn’t there more viewers for the DNC and Hillary in 2016?
over the three major English language broadcast networks and three leading cable news
Republicans don’t watch most if those channels.
Does this count the period of time before 10 PM when the major networks did not show the RNC?
Train wrecks are more popular.
“Let’s see Joe in the basement!!”
I watch Right Side Broadcasting for all Trump events.
YouTube has many live broadcasts for about everything that television does. I can see YouTube and other online video sites overtaking regular television very shortly.
Ratings are down because Trump is president and he has been quite communicative. We don’t need the convention to tell us what we are getting. I imagine the ‘84, ‘96, ‘04 and ‘12 ratings were down as well.
Then add back the streaming number ...
I watched it on C-SPAN. No annoying babbling from “experts”.
Not included were live streamers, net works such as OAN and C-SPAN... sources which didnt continuously cut in and out and replace the convention with talking heads.
It’s not even about what Republicans watcg, it’s about how popular watching live Internet broadcasting has become. YouTube is extremely popular at this point, and Internet video streaming will take over from traditional broadcast television in not much time because of all the convenieces that Internet TV offers.
Predictable.
I watched on the computer.
I love this President and will crawl over glass to vote for him but I go to bed at 8pm (up at 3:30 am) so I didn’t watch any of it.
In any case the final numbers are not in.
