DACA reboot to add restrictions to prevent backdoor path to U.S. citizenship
Washington Times via Google ^ | Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Monday, August 24, 2020

The government’s legal immigration agency said Monday that it will give strict scrutiny to DACA recipients who try to use a backdoor path to citizenship, as the Department of Homeland Security finalized plans for restarting the program after a Supreme Court decision this summer.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said illegal immigrant “Dreamers” can obtain advance parole to travel outside the U.S. — which offers the indirect path to citizenship — only if they have special circumstances such as an urgent national security reason or the need for a medical procedure that can be performed only outside the U.S.

That is a major change from the Obama years, when school or work trips were also counted as valid reasons. University groups would schedule trips to Mexico specifically to create an opportunity for students with status under DACA to win advance parole and get a chance at legalization...

... No current DACA permits will be canceled, but when Dreamers try to renew them, they will be granted only one additional year rather than the two envisioned by President Obama.

USCIS also said it will accept renewals only from those who have been approved before.

That means tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who were too young to apply before the 2017 phaseout, but who have come of age in the three years since, cannot gain status.

“The rejections will be without prejudice, meaning aliens will be able to reapply should USCIS begin accepting new requests in the future from aliens who never before received DACA,” the agency said.

DACA Dreamers would be perfect candidates for my idea of a new class of immigration card, the “Permanent Guest Worker” card. Allows you to remain in the country, to work, and to pay taxes. But it does not allow for application for citizenship until you return to your birth country and apply for permanent residency from the back of the line.

Ideally, those with a Permanent Guest Worker card also could not convey citizenship to their children born in the U.S., but that would be more difficult to implement.

I agree - but we would need a substantial margin in both Houses to pass that

Eligible for mail in voting?

Sarcasm aside, any illegal who votes, or attempts to vote, should be immediately expelled, even while returning home from the mailbox,.

Anything that gives some Third World mutt a foothold in here is enough for them to disappear into the country and never be found.

We need either a one year moratorium on immigration or go back to a strict quota system.

See, I like this idea and I don’t see it talked about. I think it’s perfectly fair to stipulate that actions have consequences.

Basically saying, we’re sorry your parents broke the law and brought you illegally into the country, but while we are sensitive to the fact that the USA is the only country you know, we are a nation of laws. As actions have consequences, you may obtain permanent guest worker status at most, unless you return to your country of origin and apply at the end of the line.

I think that’s perfectly fair and a good compromise.

What is the point of all that? We havw far, far too many illegals here now, dropping anchor babies by the minute.

They all need to go home and then maybe in about a decade we will be ready to start absorbing new people again.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said illegal immigrant “Dreamers” can obtain advance parole to travel outside the U.S. — which offers the indirect path to citizenship — only if they have special circumstances . . .

I'd rather give every one of those criminals a free one-way trip back to their real homes, along with their parents. No exceptions. We should never reward criminal behavior. Does a bank robber's kid get to keep spending the money their parents stole?
