Kenosha police shot a man Sunday evening, setting off unrest in the city after a video appeared to show the officer firing several shots at close range into the man's back.
The shooting victim has been identified as Jacob Blake, a black man, by Wisconsin officials. He was in serious condition at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee as of early Monday morning.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation said early Monday that the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave.
Police had been called to a domestic incident in the 2800 block of 40th Street at 5:11 p.m. where the shooting later occurred.
Officers provided immediate aid to the shooting victim, Kenosha police reported, and he was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert.
Tonight, Jacob Blake was shot in the back multiple times, in broad daylight," Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said in a statement. "While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country."
The Kenosha News reported that neighbors said Blake was trying to break up a fight between two women. Bystanders said he was Tased and then shot several times.
A video circulating on social media shows a man in a white shirt and black shorts walking to a gray van, followed by two male police officers with weapons drawn. The video does not show what happened before the man walked away from the officers, nor what was said, if anything.

Kenosha businesses damaged and vehicles burned after police officer shoots black man
“Among the damaged buildings: the public library, the Dinosaur Discovery Museum, the Harborside Academy charter school, a law firm, the USPS building and the county register of deeds.”
This clown also failed to mention that the guy was arrested in 2016 for a bar incident involving a gun. Yet another stupid statement from a Democrat politician.
Looking at the video? What was Jacob Blake reaching down on the floor board for when he was entering the car?
I heard locals said a gun. It would makes sense of his actions. He did not “walk” to the car, he clearly ran. And police were in pursuit with guns drawn.
I’m sure there is a complete investigation going on now.
When officers have guns pointed at you do not turn around and reach into a vehicle.
He would not have been shot if not for HIS actions.
I am not saying this was a justified shooting. I have no idea yet. But I do know it would not have happened if not for his actions.
Kenosha is not a long drive from Chicago. Theyll probably get a lot of Chicago rioters as well.
Just let ferals be ferals in their own utopias.
Has the cop been fired yet? You know that’s coming really fast. And his arrest will follow shortly.
IF its turns out the police erred in shooting, it does NOT justify or excuse the deliberate hateful destruction by the BLM blacks and their white supporters. There are police regulations and civil laws with juries and judges to carry them out properly. Not a mob.
People did not do anything after the 5 year old boy was riding his bike in a yard and was shot in the head by a black man and killed.
Now let’s look at that: One person of one race killed by another of a different race but people do not believe all people of the other race are to blame. (The boy killed on his bike).
The opposite true when a black man is killed (Kenosha incident).
“When officers have guns pointed at you do not turn around and reach into a vehicle. He would not have been shot if not for HIS actions.”
Yep.... it’s really that simple.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
He's also not the first black man of person not to have followed law enforcement instructions. In fact, most of these incidents involve some form of resting arrest or fleeing. No, I don't know exactly how they feel because most of these incidents involve individuals with criminal records, and often active warrants. Still, common sense tells me I'm better off being arrested than being shot. Or even tased. Of course many of these incidents involve individuals whose judgement may be impaired by drugs and alcohol.
resisting arrest
If the police were as evil as the protesters claim the protesters would all be dead about now.
have no idea what happened but Milwaukee bucks brought this up right before the game
at the very beginning of the video, the girl and all 3 officers suddenly step back and away from the car, the one officer visibly draws his weapon....they obviously saw some kind of weapon...
I watched the video. Perp had a suicide by police wish. Didnt follow orders, resisted arrest, had a warrant for his arrest, and cops knew he had a violent past. Case law on this will back the police.
Again the words Crime , Criminal , Resisting Arrest etc are left out
