'If it doesn't look right, it's probably not' What should you do if you're driving your car and you find yourself surrounded by an angry mob?
That's the question that former Navy SEAL Jack Carr answered Friday on Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight." What's the background?
Violent protests and unrest have been commonplace in major cities nationwide since the tragic killing of George Floyd. Though demonstrations have fizzled out in most cities, protests continue in cities like Portland, Seattle, and Chicago.
On Sunday, a shocking video went viral because it showed an angry mob in Portland force a white man out of his wrecked truck; that driver was then brutally assaulted. Fortunately, police have since arrested the suspect.
The situation has left many wondering: With protesters routinely blocking highways and harassing motorists, what exactly should one do if they find themselves in a similar situation? What did Carr say?
Carr explained:
Some of those basics are: Stay in the car, doors closed, locks, locked doors, windows up, and that only allows you some level of protection. It does give you a level of protection but it only goes so far, but the main thing is to avoid those right away.
So, situational awareness. Looking around, being aware that there are threats, picking your head up out of that phone and turning around. If you turn a corner and you see something that doesn't look right — as an army special forces sniper from Vietnam told me years ago — he said, "if it doesn't look right, it's probably not." So trust those instincts and pay attention to that sixth sense that has kept us alive as a species since we've been on this planet. If it doesn't look right, turn around, reverse, get out of there.
But what if you find yourself surrounded by a "violent mob?" According to Carr, one should know how to use their tools of defense.
"So remember, your vehicle is a weapon, but you don't want to be in that position to begin with," he said. "Now, if you do get to that phase where you have to fight, it's good to be prepared and to know how to fight."
And for those with firearms, Carr instructed people to "invest" in firearm training, so they know how to properly use it in a situation where they need to defend themselves or their family.
"Get that training," Carr advised. "For those who are wrestling with the fact that they might have to defend themselves, I always think, 'What if you just appeared here out of nowhere and all of a sudden you were violently attacked by a person or a group of people?' You wouldn't need a piece of paper that told you it was okay to defend this gift of human life."

Thinking that unless he was suicidal he would move, I gunned the engine and headed straight toward him. He moved.
I saw that interview. If you read what he said carefully, you will see he never did answer the question about what to do if you are in your car and surrounded by a mob. He just said to remember your car is a weapon. He never went further than that.
If you're surrounded by a violent mob, why didn't he say to rev the car as a warning and then press the pedal to the metal and start moving the bejeepers out of there as fast as you can.....and if there's some crazies still bopping on or in front of the hood of your car, bowl them over like ten-pins at Big Daddy's Bowling Emporium.
But he didn't say that....or anything close to it.

Excellent advice. Yes, there are times when situational awareness won’t help. Trouble comes out of nowhere. But in general, if it looks iffy get outta Dodge.
I have told the following story before. Apologies if you’ve already heard it.
I once went to a exhibition given by a renowned Japanese black belt in karate. And he told us he was going to share with us his best move.
What could that move be, I wondered. A high kick? A straight punch? “My best move,” he said, “is not to be there.” In other words, exit the situation. Better yet, don’t get yourself in that situation in the first place.

Exactly. Hit the gas and move those ahead of you aside. Drive onward to a safe place and call the cops informing them you were surrounded by an angry mob and felt your life was in danger. You fled the scene to save your and your family’s life (if applicable). Nothing more. Then call your attorney.
Keeping up with local news and knowing the hot spots in your town go a long way toward staying out of trouble.
I have pointed out to the wife the areas where a flash mob may form and start stopping cars.
Avoiding those areas only take a couple of minutes more travel time anywhere in town.
Bottom line is if it’s a choice between you and yours or them, make sure it’s them. You can talk about the aftermath later.
I did see the interview and noticed the same thing remembering the word “weapon” so I guess you just gun the engine and move.

Keep your vehicle in gear, use your horn, drive forward slowly even if you have to push idiots out of the way. You are liklely un a lethal force encounter and have the natural right to self defence.
Do not stop, even if a cop tells you to do so, he has no power and therefore no authority over the vile roadblockers or you (as you already have determined the existance of a lethal force encounter).
It is nearly impossible for a crowd to tip your vehicle if you are moving even only a few miles per hour.
If armed, so what,your immediate concern is egress not countervailing armed force with a firearm.
Drive forward until you can turn on a main road preferably 90 degrees away from the threatening crowd. If alone, abd xan autodisl921, do so and leave the link open, if with anoth Dr, have them call. Tell the dispatcher what you are doing to egress. Or not, may be too intense to focus on other than survival.
Once clear, comply with police or initiate contact if you could not during the assault.
Guns? Yeah, not too useful if you have to dismount....ask the mevh infantry guys in AnNasariah. Iraq.
Do not intentionally harm anyone, but drive as if your life depends on it. It does.

Because he'd face lawsuits from red doper parents if he gave explicit advice and one of their red diaper doper babies got hurt from somebody following it.
