EXAMPLE

The most valuable gift you can give another is a good example.

"For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you." (John: 13:15)

In his autobiography, Armand Hammer, known as much for his humanitarian efforts as for being chairman and CEO of Occidental Petroleum, an advisor to presidents from Roosevelt to Reagan, and an industrialist, reveals the roots of his giving spirit:

"My father had become a prominent and greatly loved figure in the area. . .It was an almost ecstatic experience for me to ride with him when he was on his doctor's rounds. Patients greeted him at their doors with such a warmth that waves of pride and honor would surge in me to find myself the son of such a father, a man so obviously good, so obviously deserving of the affection he received. He could have, however, made himself many times richer if he had insisted on collecting all of his bills; or if he could have restrained himself from giving money away; but then he would not have been the man he was."

"I have seen, in his office, drawers full of unpaid bills for which he refused to demand payment because he knew the difficult circumstances of the patients. And I heard innumerable stories from patients about leaving money behind to pay for the prescriptions he had written when he visited people who were too poor to eat, let alone pay the doctor."

What a wonderful legacy to leave your child...the "business" of loving and giving to others.

LT S. Edwards, CHC, USN

Howdy, luvie.

Were you able to grab a nap this afternoon? It looks like Steve’s kept you mods pretty busy.

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

I’m a bit itchy, but so glad I’m able to get a legal hair cut.

BUT, I had to sign in per the prog mayor’s orders. She told me right away I didn’t have to leave my email, and I didn’t. And I didn’t use my phone # either. This tracking carp really annoys me.

I got a box put together, but that was all I got done on that front. I chose to spend time working on my home desk stuff and accomplished a bunch of little things. It was nice.

I will fill the box tomorrow. LOL!

Did you at least have cooler temps? Any hint of rain?

HI, radu!

Yes, I finally got off at about 5 to nap and now he’s going again. Those hurricanes are all over the map!

Was it still cool there today?

Ugh! Hearing about the signing in stuff makes me glad to have long hair and be able to trim it myself. I’d be hard-pressed to sign ANYthing. But then you know how hard-nosed I am. LOL
Glad you got it cut and don’t have to think about it again for a little while.

Bet it feels good getting a bunch of stuff on your desk dealt with. If your desk is anything like mine, a mess can accumulate in no time, and you have so little free time these days to deal with it.
Sounds like you’re making the most of the weekend.

It wasn’t as cool today as it was yesterday but it wasn’t too bad. No rain though. Might get lucky tomorrow. Might not. Wondering if we’ll get any rain next week from the hurricanes.

I watched a lot of the afternoon stream and have had tonight’s stream up for a while. I was a little late checking to see if he was on so started at the be ginning and bumped my way up to present, which is where I am now.
You aren’t kidding that the hurricane models are all over the place. No one has a clue what the two storms are going to do.

Not too bad today but a little warmer than yesterday. I think (hope) the oppressively hot weather is over for us.

I hope the hot weather is over for you, too. Enough is enough, eh? I’m waiting to be able to say that myself.

Steve has some of the best coverage that there is on the hurricanes. He has learned a lot since he reported on Harvey. He’s a smart, if goofy, guy. ;)

A very pleasant good Sunday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Sky has been all red and orange the last few days in northern Colorado. ...

I noticed that and the sunrises are quite red also. The smoke gets bad in the morning but Cameron Mountain fire smoke is going south. I have smoke haze but not much smoke in my valley.

Ooooh, it’s still going to be hot for a while. We could still have some oppressive days but not long stretches of it like earlier this summer.

Steve’s done a very good job covering the hurricanes, no doubt. I feel bad for the folks along the Gulf coast because no one knows where the heck either storm is going to go. Two coming in at once is something they haven’t dealt with before. If LA gets a double whammy, OMG.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Did you and Gizmo head out to Comanche Lake again yesterday or head off to somewhere different?

The way things look now the whole gulf coast is going to get slammed. But...it is 2020, so who knows. LOL!

Hope things in your area stay cooler. Someone might as well be comfortable. Right? It's still 82 here. sigh

Guess I'd better go if I want to stay awake at worship in the morning. We're still not back in our building, so it's possible I could fall out of the chair I sit in and really embarrass myself. See ya tomorrow! 😄

No we actually did do Comanche Lake yesterday. I did have to untangle the leash because Giz did some moving around on a vine but other than that we had a great time. Here are the pics from yesterday.

And, BTW we're also watching Marco and Laura to see if they're going to bring rain into Oklahoma this coming week. We may need some it. Hopefully these systems won't cause any damage to the Gulf Coast. Prayers for those in it's path.

A wide swath of the coast will get wet at the very least.

I wish y’all could get a cool-down, at least at night so you could sleep better. Our last few nights have been low 70s or even upper 60s. Our AC barely runs at night.

Sleep well. We do NOT want you falling asleep and tipping out of the chair during worship in the morning! :-)

No pix of Gizmo rolling so he must not have found any smelly things. LOL! It looks like it was a bit warm out there.

We wouldn’t mind some rain from one or both of the storms but the way things have gone this summer, west TN will get some and we won’t. They don’t need it. We do.

Prayers here, too, for those in the storms’ paths.
