Students will have to wear masks all day in school with few exceptions: Pa. Health Department

Students over the age of 2 will be required to wear face coverings for nearly the entire school day under Pennsylvania’s universal mask order, according to a Department of Education memo released this week.

There will be a limited number of instances in which students will be allowed to remove their face coverings, according to the memo. These include while eating or drinking, or during an activity that makes mask-wearing unsafe. Students can also take their masks off during 10-minute “face-covering breaks.”

“For the safety of students, staff and families and to avoid community spread of COVID-19, students and staff are considered to be members of the public who are congregating in indoor locations. As such, they are required to adhere to this Order,” the Department of Education said.

The order is in effect for students, staff and teachers. It also applies to student athletes whenever they are not “actively engaged” in a game or workout.

Health officials recommended school districts enforce mask-wearing on school buses, in addition to during the school day.

Students can only opt out with documentation showing they have a medical or mental health condition that prevents them from wearing a mask, according to the memo.

Masks will be a requirement until Department of Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine deems it is safe to loosen the restriction, education officials said.

Pennsylvania’s universal mask order, which went into effect July 1, mandates masks be worn in any public setting. At the time, Gov. Tom Wolf said mask-wearing could be a requirement in Pennsylvania until a coronavirus vaccine is available.

Health officials last month urged teachers and staff to set a good example while acknowledging the challenges of receiving universal student compliance.

“Given that children and adolescents may experience challenges in effectively adhering to recommendations, it is critical that staff set a good example for students by modeling behaviors around physical distancing, face coverings and hand hygiene,” the Department of Health said.

The state is also asking schools to follow social distancing guidelines and limit the interactions between groups of students.

Each school district was required to submit individual safety proposals, but the state’s face mask and social distancing guidelines apply across the Commonwealth.

More information on the phased reopening of Pennsylvania schools is available on the Department of Health’s website.

How hideous. These are truly government indoctrination centers training minds full of mush to be compliant with government edicts from dickless wonders. This nation is full of cowards.

Where are the Republican politicians willing to lose the tranny vote? Like they were going to get it anyway. It's time to call a spade a spade, in public and without later apologizing. In fact, the attack on this mentally deranged health secretary should include a planned double down. The left is not buying rational scientific arguments so the only recourse is personal attacks the destroy the credibility of these people.

It will be interesting to see how students react to this.

I suspect 1/3 will submit, 1/3 will rebel, and 1/3 will leave.

My 15 year old son is already talking about starting a mask resistance.
Said they can’t suspend everyone.
I told him they would probably shut the school and go on!ine.

I'm still amazed at how much power the citizens of Pennsylvania (as is the case in many other, particularly Democrat/Left-controlled states) have ceded to this unelected, unaccountable bureaucrat.

(Oh, and at the risk of co-mingling the "its", I wouldn't call Dr. It "dickless"; Dr. It may still have one ... It's just not sure what to do with it.)

Why go to school?????

An appropriate question at all times, for all students, and all parents, and all tax payers.

This is why I support any teacher or school staff member who refuses to show up for work under these conditions.

If this COVID-19 outbreak is so serious that we must shut down businesses and walk around looking like masked mutants, then you’ll never convince me that it’s safe to work in a school environment.

“In a statement by the school public relations deputy principal, it was learned that the daily count of students sent to the office for not actually wearing masks was down to 83 on Wednesday from 104 and 107 earlier in the week. One student was sent to the office for wearing a mask that was only the elastic bands but dubbed the Emperor’s mask after the tale of the Emperor’s new clothes. Three girls were sent for bickering over their sequin studded masks.”

At the time, Gov. Tom Wolf said mask-wearing could be a requirement in Pennsylvania until a coronavirus vaccine is available.

Which will be never, as Covid19 is a corona class virus like AIDS, SARS, or the common cold , for none of which a vaccine exits.

I’m almost looking forward to the day the muslims take over and throw idiots like this off the top of a roof.

This was pretty much the plot of the trilogy “Prayers for the Assassin”.

4) Poor concentration
5) Diminished cognitive skills
6) LOWER STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES!

Sounds like a recipe for more Dem voters.

I’m just repeating what my old pal in Royal Oak said ... which, on reflection and from your comment ... I was clearly wrong in repeating. “Ceded” was a very poor word to use and I apologize for doing so.

If it's so dangerous that they have to wear a mask, how can they be there at all?

Alternatively, how can the state pretend it's so dangerous that you have to wear a mask but the governor and rioters are declared exempt?

By continuing to sustain a “State of Emergency” in our state. Without this he could not do this. He will not give that up. But you can be assured our Representatives have already established a bill preventing this long term state of emergency from exceeding 30 days in the future.
