Why John Kasich Keeps Reminding Us His Dad Was a Mailman
National Review ^ | 08/17/2020 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 08/17/2020 4:13:22 PM PDT by Kevin in California

Former governor of Ohio John Kasich will speak at the Democratic National Convention tonight. With the ongoing — and frequently overwrought — worries that the U.S. Postal Service will collapse upon the waves of ballots in the mail, it is a near-certainty that Kasich will remind us, for what seems like the millionth time, that his father was a mailman.

Way back in 2014, our John J. Miller wrote, “If Kasich had a dollar for every time he mentioned his father’s job, he might be able to retire with the equivalent of a generous postal-service pension.” Almost every candidate mentions their parents and, to the extent they can plausibly claim humble roots, tries to emphasize their long and difficult climb to political success. But Kasich almost turned it into a mantra, mentioning it so often others turned it into a running gag.

Being the son of a mailman is not as all down home and working class as Kasich wants everyone to believe. Being a mailman is one of the better jobs available to the non-college grad person in many small towns and rural areas.

I grew up with a couple of children of mailmen and they lived about as well as any families other than those of doctors, lawyers and successful businessmen.

What a phony that guy is.

Karl Malone was Kasich’s dad? No family resemblance.

I never understood the humble roots thing. I can understand talking about the values you learn from your parents. My father owned and operated a business. He built something. Most of my uncles had their own businesses. They built something. My grandfather owned a business. You get the idea. So, what did I learn from that? I learned the government was constantly putting up barriers for businesses. I doubt you hear that as a son of a mailman.

His father may have been a fine man, but Johnny boy never learned about building anything. In fact, he tears down Donald Trump's accomplishments. He tears down the Republican Party. He sides with Marxists. I'd say, his father did a piss poor job of raising him and Johnny boy is a miserable human being.

We used to have the US Lighthouse Service. It went away. So, too, can the US Post Office.

It’s in the Constitution. It’s not going anywhere.

The issue is their pension requirements are keeping the rest of the Federal Pension system solvent.

All of the post office stuff is BS. They can handle the volume. Most of the ballots won’t go out of their local carrier station.

The weak link is where the votes end up to be counted.

I once hung out with John, ten years ago. He’s such a disappointment. I think he’s very likely got and deep seeded emotional issues.

Cruz lost because of Kasich?

Cruz didn’t lose because of Kasich. Cruz lost because of Cruz. Lots of Cruz supporters like me switched to Trump and then when all the Cruz lying started we never looked back. It had nothing to do with Kasich.

Cruz tried to make an alliance with Kasich and just showed how weird he was. Normal people know you quit after your opponent has beaten you. He got nasty and then started lying all over the place. Then he became known as Lying Ted. Kasich didn’t make Cruz start lying. Marco Rubio had the common sense to know he lost and he quit. Kasich only won 1 state so he wasn’t a threat to anyone.

Cruz couldn’t beat Trump because the voters agreed with Trump more on the issues he was focused on. Nobody could argue the issues with Trump so they all focus on things like his speaking style or just start lying. Trump taught Cruz a lesson, he was on the wrong side of the issues, so making fun of Trump’s hair or lying saying he was dealing with the mob or he was the same as Hillary was not going to beat him. The evengelicals didn’t vote for Cruz? You know why because they don’t like liars.

That’s in response to this...

“Anyone with memories going back four years will recall that a contributing factor was Kasich’s refusal to quit the race, despite having won only his home state’s primary, ensuring that the non-Trump vote was split between Kasich and Ted Cruz. In fact, according to Tim Alberta’s book, American Carnage, shortly before withdrawing from the race, Cruz privately met with Kasich and declared, “Respectfully, you’re not going to win this nomination, and if you are really invested in preventing Donald Trump from being the Republican nominee, you need to drop out of this race. One of us has to, or he is on a glide path to the nomination.” Kasich told Cruz, “Ted, I am going all the way to the convention in Cleveland. Nothing you can say is going to change my mind about this.”

25
A few days later, Cruz lost the Indiana primary and decided to quit the race. One day later, contradicting what he had said in their private meeting, Kasich quit the race as well.

A few people in this world are more responsible for Donald Trump being president than John Kasich, but not many. Hillary Clinton, maybe James Comey . . .”
