DOJ Accuses Yale University of Illegally Discriminating Against White and Asian Students

After a two-year investigation, the Department of Justice (DOJ) claimed that Yale University has illegally discriminated against “dozens of white and Asian” students in its admission process.

“There is no such thing as a nice form of race discrimination,” said Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division Eric Dreiband. The investigation revealed that Yale “rejects scores of Asian American and white applicants each year based on their race, whom it otherwise would admit.”

While the findings come as no surprise to most college-age kids who are white or Asian and are looking to get into Ivy League schools, it’s surprising to see the extent of the discrimination. And, of course, the rank hypocrisy from administrators seeking to assure everyone that their admissions policies are perfectly legal and give everyone an equal shot.

That’s not what DOJ found.

ABC7 News Reports:

“Yale College could fill its entire entering class several times over with applicants who reach the 99th percentile in standardized testing and who have perfect high school grade point averages, but we do not base admission on such numbers alone,” President Peter Salovey wrote. “Rather, we look at the whole person when selecting whom to admit among the many thousands of highly qualified applicants.”

That’s what the school said in 2018 when the DOJ announced its investigation. The notion of Yale looking at “the whole person” was exposed as a fraud.

Prosecutors found that Yale has been discriminating against applicants to its undergraduate program based on their race and national origin and “that race is the determinative factor in hundreds of admissions decisions each year.” The investigation concluded that Asian American and white students have “only one-tenth to one-fourth of the likelihood of admission as African American applicants with comparable academic credentials,” the Justice Department said.

‘Looking at the whole person’ is just a euphemism for “we choose who we want to choose”:

This is based on a variety of non-academic and outright prejudicial, financially motivated, elitist, and other often indefensible criteria:

-How much money the family might donate.
-How much ‘cache’ the university might get from having them (e.g. the daughter of a politician or entertainer).
-Whether they fulfill a political correctness quota/profile.
-Whether or not the applicant is connected to someone close to the board, administration, or powerful faculty.
-Whether or not the applicant has one of several specific pedigrees (ethnic, religious, private education at pedigreed school, time spent in Europe or other non-American locations, etc.).

Yale can’t fix Yale. Well, Bart Giamatti managed to get control of the asylum back from the inmates, but he didn’t stick around to make sure the changes stuck.

I once went, um, attended a function there. The school really skimps on building exterior maintenance from my observations during my couple of hours there.

Been there, done that. It all comes down to the district judge hearing the case., A similar case, this time, alleging Harvard’s admissions discrimination against Asians was heard last year. The Obama appointed judge did not really have to hear the evidence before issuing her preconceived opinion, more personal than legal, that Harvard’s manipulation of the admissions process to limit Asian admissions was not discriminatory because it lead to diversity. I hope Barr is willing to take this Yale case up to the Supreme Court where he has a chance of seeing justice done based on the constitutional law not enforcing diversity through racial discrimination by denying equal protection.

In mid 1969 I asked my drill sergeant about black promotions at the end of Basic, black goofoffs getting stripes ahead of others. said that was just the way it was now.

IOW early Affirmative Action.
contractors to reverse discriminate, or not get work.
Since then it compels.
From another angle, how much self-respect is there when all parties know the system is ufair?

It goes back even further. The entire combat and training records for the Tuskegee airmen (332nd Fighter Group) was inflated during WW 2, and it continues to this day. The squadron was a pet project of Franklin and Elenor Roosevelt - and with that backing the word went forth. I am not saying they were not brave or patriotic. But their true record vs. what has been sold to public was and is pure propaganda.

Here is just one example: it is still reported to this day that the unit lost no bombers. That is complete fiction. More than two dozen bombers were lost that were being escorted by the 332nd. Even NBC news reported this in 2007 when an Air Force historian pointed this out. But much of this was even wiped from the Internet. It’s an incredible work of propaganda. Reminiscent of despotic regimes.
