How Canceling College Football’s Season Will Backfire On Universities, NCAA

College football players have been voiceless for far too long. As the 2020 season hangs in the balance, they may not get what they want, but they’re not going down quietly.

Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren and his member university presidents held a meeting Tuesday morning to address the viability of playing football in the fall. As of Tuesday afternoon, The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Big Ten has officially canceled its season, making it the first Power 5 conference to do so.

I concern is all these small business and bars going out of business because of they rash decisions.

But yet, the Big 12, ACC and SEC still plan to have their seasons. At least we'll have some college football.

This could head in a couple of directions.

1) The SEC, which is the richest, most powerful conference, and as of right now appears intent on playing, could just leave the NCAA and go off on it’s own to establish a new college sports governing body. Other large schools who are sick of getting jerked around by the NCAA might leave too.

2) A new pro league something like the XFL could form and start offering these athletes a chance to utilize their skills for a real paycheck.

The current college football landscape might not survive either. A heavy price to pay in order to virtue-signal your Trump Derangement.

Without the revenue that College Football brings in, all non-revenue sports will suffer greatly, that includes all women’s sports and sports like swimming, track, etc....

Basically cancelling the football season will be financial Armageddon for many Universities...

A group of players submitted to the Big 10 a public letter containing a variety of Covid-related demands, including a bunch of protocols impossible on a college campus such as contact tracing. And, third party oversight of compliance, liability exposure, etc..

I don't know if that factored into the Big 10's decision, but if you make a bunch of demands with which the other side can't/won't comply, you shouldn't be shocked if they walk away.

I doubt any college football is played this year. SEC and ACC will follow suit. Regardless of your stance, the idea of a public institution blazing trails that involve risk simply isn’t workable.

Big 10/Pac 12/Democrats will put pressure on the ACC to not play. As long as the ACC stays strong I think we will have fall football. If it’s only 2 of the 5 big leagues all bets are off.

IMO the Big Ten’s decision was driven by the fact that they are state schools, mostly in states where the governors are Lockdown Nazis.

So far it’s a blue/red state thing. Blue states are shutting down college football. I think the swing vote is ACC. My worry is there is a bunch of blue states there, too, who will pressure their schools not to play.
