But yet, the Big 12, ACC and SEC still plan to have their seasons. At least we'll have some college football.

This could head in a couple of directions.

1) The SEC, which is the richest, most powerful conference, and as of right now appears intent on playing, could just leave the NCAA and go off on it’s own to establish a new college sports governing body. Other large schools who are sick of getting jerked around by the NCAA might leave too.

or

2) A new pro league something like the XFL could form and start offering these athletes a chance to utilize their skills for a real paycheck.

The current college football landscape might not survive either. A heavy price to pay in order to virtue-signal your Trump Derangement.

Without the revenue that College Football brings in, all non-revenue sports will suffer greatly, that includes all women’s sports and sports like swimming, track, etc....

Basically cancelling the football season will be financial Armageddon for many Universities...

A group of players submitted to the Big 10 a public letter containing a variety of Covid-related demands, including a bunch of protocols impossible on a college campus such as contact tracing. And, third party oversight of compliance, liability exposure, etc..

I don't know if that factored into the Big 10's decision, but if you make a bunch of demands with which the other side can't/won't comply, you shouldn't be shocked if they walk away.

I guess College’s don’t need the money, that tells you something. Perhaps they should co-sign their own student’s loans.

with any luck, the infighting between the power 5 conferences will break that cartel up. then, maybe college football can get back to being college football.

espn would have to be restrained from turning it back into it’s cash spewing prostitute, but at least there would be a chance.

This article/letter was written by a former player who supports unionization of college athletes, and giving them more control over college athletics.

What he and similar people do not grasp is that with rare exceptions, the vast majority of athletic departments are a net drain on their school's finances. For the other schools that do break even on their athletic departments, it is because football and basketball fund all the non-revenue producing sports.

So the bottom line is that if they try to push those schools into the massive administrative and legal headaches of dealing with unionized college athletes, a great many schools are likely to walk away entirely because it will not be worth the effort. As it is, a great many academics at many schools already believe that sports gets too much attention and emphasis, and would gladly hop aboard a movement to end them.

If that happens, the players who believe that a minor league consisting of players not yet good enough for the NFL will attract massive TV contracts and money even if they aren't affiliated with colleges are going to find themselves in for a very rude awakening.

The amount of small (and medium sized) businesses that depend on professional and college sports for the lion’s share of their income is an amazing thing.

I’ve been saying this for months - this lockdown is going to have catastrophic consequences. Sure, a lot of already weak businesses fell off fast, but there are a LOT of dead businesses walking right now. Many of them know they are doomed but are being silent, many are in denial, and many are about to be crushed and won’t even see it coming.

2021 is gonna be a year for the history books. Even more than 2020.

Honestly, I (almost) never saw the attraction of college sports. To me, it’s a big nothing burger.

There are people out there who use sports (college or pro) as barometers of their personal worth and attitude. My dad, for instance...if “his teams” do well, he’s a fairly happy guy. But, if if they lose, then to him, life sucks and everything is bad. I’ve pointed this out to him, but he doesn’t care. And I daresay there are many, many people out there who are just like him. I had started down that path myself, but I saw the futility in that and was able to stop it.

It’s not a good way to live.

The Big 12 announced they were planning on playing. I would be very surprised if the ACC and the SEC didn’t play as well.

Football makes a ton of $. But what about all the college athletes in other sports? Many are from meager means and can’t practice on the level they need without the university’s equipment/space or coaching. This makes me sad.

Why cancel the world because of an illness? There have always been illnesses. There will always be illnesses.

The COVID panic strikes again. Consider that fans may lose interest and never come back after one or more cancelled seasons. The economic loss is staggering for all the local small businesses who cater to fans on game day including sports bars all over the country where fans gather to watch their favorite teams.

COVID panic is the new Puritanism where we must stay locked in our basements fearing the almighty wrath of the virus and are prohibited from any enjoyment.

Most people are talking about the revenue from sports, but I think there will be a shift in enrollment. There are people who think sports are part of the college “experience” and if the teams aren’t there at the flagship, why go?

In many of these states, the smaller campuses that are closer to home will pick up some enrollment and the flagship with the big time football time will lose some. If a student has all classes on-line and it’s recommended they do not live in the dorm and can’t go to parties/games, why not take the classes from the school whose library they can at least get to within 30 minutes from home?

Shut it all down!

We're going to see nothing but pro-BLM/pro-Antifa anti-Americanism kneeling and displaying by the college football teams, just like the NFL.

Let it all burn to the ground.
