NJ gym that defied coronavirus restrictions gets license rescinded: report

A New Jersey gym had its license rescinded during a town vote on Tuesday, ending a long-running saga that saw its owners repeatedly defy a state order to remain closed during the coronavirus pandemic, according to multiple reports.

The Bellmawr council in Camden County voted 5 to 1 to rescind the mercantile license of Atilis Gym following an hourlong hearing that featured arguments from lawyers on both sides, according to NJ.com. The decision came amid a monthslong standoff between the gym's owners and Gov. Phil Murphy over the importance of limiting the spread of the virus or the livelihood of local businesses.

"In a clear political move, the all democrat town council followed their orders from Gov. Murphy to revoke our business license," said Ian Smith, one of the gym's owners on Instagram following the hearing. "Zero evidence was put forth to support the claim that @atilisgymbellmawr poses any threat to the public."

This is when people go and burn down the houses of the city counsel members.

“Hey, Pal, nice gym ya got there. It would be a shame if something were to happen to your business license.”

Think of how many current business owners are planning to relocate from towns like this and how many potential business owners are rethinking of ever setting up shop in a town like this.

The landlords in this town are going to feel this for a long time.

I'm certain the gym owners' lawyers are taking into account that their clients will never be able to operate within a town that shut them down so they'll have to take their lawsuit proceeds elsewhere.

How does a municipality shut down a business over distancing diktats (not laws) from a governor (Phail Murphy) who marched with rioters in violations of his own diktats?

Since gyms are not allowed to open in NJ under ANY circumstances what good did the license do for him?

What about the $10K daily fine?

The bigger issue:
Why in God’s green earth does a gym need a license to operate from the government?

I thought we were a free people.

The gym should sue under violation of the tenth amendment.

The tree of liberty is getting thirsty!

More than surprised that has not happened thus far.
Mayor of Portland needs a good tar and feathering along with loads of others.

You don’t need a business license, make it a club, or a charity that takes donations.

You need an occupancy license to operate in a public place, which are issued by cities.

What’s the harm of losing your license to operate your business? A business that has been forced to close for months already.

The owners of that gym and the owners of any business that suffers a financial loss as a result of these idiotic lock downs need to get a lawyer and go after these Mayors and governors.

Its time to make them pay.

Just for context, this is in South Jersey, Camden County. Statewide NJ deaths per day are in the single digits. Active cases in Camden County are around 8,000. Camden County has a population of 507,000. So less than 2% of residents are considered active COVID cases and mortality statewide is approaching zero.

NJ does not have a COVID problem. This is pure meanness because he won't bend the knee and embarrassed the governor dictator. Period.

Massive, widespread civil disobedience is in order.

Just call it a protest.

"This is when people go and burn down the houses of the city counsel members."

And tar and feather them, like in the good old days.

I have not seen a single article citing a person picking up COVID at this gym, and I assume that if any did, it would be national news.
