If you don't need to be behind bars right now, you probably shouldn't be. Jails and prisons are breeding grounds for COVID-19 -- and while, under normal circumstances, punitive measures would be perfectly reasonable for someone who doesn't represent any danger to the community, in this case they're not the ones who need to stay behind bars.
The problem is that the whole "danger to the community" line is a very blurry one. It's the kind of situation where federal, state and local officials need to pore over records -- including inmates' criminal history, whom they victimized and what their conduct has been behind bars.
It's impossible for anyone to say where that blurry line is. I'll say this much, though: Inasmuch as it exists, if you come up with an estimate of how many prisoners you'll be releasing and then choose to release 70 percent more than that estimate, my guess is that you're over that blurry line.
According to Fox News, California is apparently set to have released 17,600 prisoners because of the coronavirus pandemic, well more than it had originally planned to.
The Associated Press reported Thursday that the state overshot the original estimate by 70 percent. That revelation came in court documents in a lawsuit.

Just when we thought California didn’t have enough to worry about with tens of thousands of illegals streaming in from Mexico; now they are releasing tens of thousands of criminals into the population. How wonderful.

The criminals should have been told sternly as they were released from prison “Now all of you stay out of trouble. Ya’ hear?”

His beloved BLM and Dems are surging in acceptance. Religious gatherings are banned in MI and NY and elsewhere most of the past few months while abortion places stayed open. Riots in several cities. Trump lost his edge over the great economy as the economy is now in Depression recovery level. Millions want to work again but are locked down by governors and mayors. People are at each other’s throats over masks and being cooped up without sports or concerts, with physical and opiod use going up. Police are being curtailed and endangered plus defunded. Cities are burning with many more to come.
Criminals are a vital demographic to the DNC.
I believe we have attained “Ludicrous Speed”.
And the DNC wants them to vote.
Creating more chaos and disorder. What better way then to loose thousands of criminals in our midst. Deep state demon-rats are going full speed to start a war now BEFORE the election because they know they are going to LOSE! You do not have to obey the deep state governors. They have turned themselves into mini-dictators making their own “laws”and making states into their own personal banana republics. It is time to revolt.

Where do the released prisoners go?
Who pays for their housing?
Where do they get money for food?
What could POSSIBLY go wrong? It’s 100 % certain that some newly released criminals will move in a few blocks away at our local homeless summer camp. All this is happening as they insist on disarming us law-abiding working people.
Is it just me or do Prisons and Prisoners sound like a great testing ground for Hydroxychloraquine? I mean you have a controlled population in a controlled environment and the ability to track progression and do blind studies. Seems like a GREAT idea. Don’t let them out, let them choose to get Hydroxy or don’t and study the results.
Obviously HCQS is much to dangerous. Just ask all the folks who took it to help prevent malaria. We shouldn’t dare to experiment on prisoners. That would make us naughtZees or something.
