A 19-year-old caregiver has been arrested after horrifying footage showed him slapping a frail 88-year-old man in the face and screaming 'how stupid are you' at his victim.
Graphic home surveillance footage shows the on-duty caregiver hitting the unidentified man, who requires full-time care of basic needs, several times in the face and violently dragging him out of his wheelchair while shouting abuse at him.
Deputies from Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Delgado also hit his victim in the face, head and stomach multiple times.
The disturbing video released by HCSO begins with Delgado pulling the old man off the bed and sitting him down in a wheelchair before the caregiver casually slaps his victim hard across the face.
He then tells the 88-year-old to 'relax'.
'It's okay, it's okay. Relax,' he says.
Delgado then tries to pull the vulnerable man to his feet and slaps him again in the face.
The abuser appears to get more irate at this point and starts to yell abuse in the old man's face.
'You're a f**ing idiot! Like how stupid are you?' he screams, as he pulls his own headphones out.
Delgado then forcefully yanks the frail man from the wheelchair while slapping him again in the face and dragging him back toward the bed.
Authorities said Delgado then proceeded to abuse the victim, pushing him onto the bed and punching him in the stomach three times.
Delgado was arrested Wednesday night with the help of Pasco Sheriff's Office, just hours after the shocking incident took place.
Sheriff Chad Chronister branded his actions 'deplorable' and said he had broken the trust placed in him as a caregiver.
Delgado was charged with abuse of an elderly or disabled adult and battery.

My 94 yr old father is in a Memory Care facility in Southern Illinois.
It is a small facility (26 nice single rooms) and is absolutely excellent. It’s managed and staffed by 100% women and 1 female nurese on duty.
Food is all home made and excellent.

Abuse of an elder or the disabled can substantially increase the punishment (if he gets any).
Of course I feel sorry for the victim. There is no justification for the abuse he received at the hands of the abuser.
That said, yes, I do feel some compassion for the kid as well. He was in the wrong job, was clearly frustrated, and made some extremely poor choices. He MUST be punished, of course. And I feel a bit sorry for him. I hope he straightens up his act.
It figures. No surprise here.

THIS is the reason I spent so much time on random drop-in visits to my Dad when he was still alive, living in a Nursing Home.
The home he was in was top-notch; I picked it out myself after MANY interviews at MANY facilities, but one psycho in any facility can/will do something like this.
If you have a family member in a nursing or rehab situation, PLEASE make a pest of yourself. Get to know ALL of the staff, and especially those immediately tending to your loved one.
Bringing cookies or flowers for the staff, and THANKING THEM for a job well done goes so far! Also get to know the OWNER of the facility and the lead Social Worker.
Dad has passed on now, but I know in my heart I did the best I could for him. Having him live with us was an impossibility due to being so far out in the country and a lack of his specialized medical needs out here. I had to keep him in The Big City to get those needs met. Our county has little to assist the elderly. :(
P.S. I’d like to personally slap this kid around for a few hours, myself!

I assume this was in the elderly man’s home. Thank God for the home surveillance system.
There’s no room for compassion where it’s obvious the guy knew exactly what he was doing to his ‘patient’......I suspect there’s been others he’s attacked as well.
Agreed. I was sickened by this story and couldn’t watch the video, the photos were bad enough on the original article.
Punk should be subjected to hard physical punishment like breaking rocks for a number of years.
As someone with a number of elderly relatives, some of them near helpless, I have NO sympathy for the assailant.

My mom was in the hospital for a few days, the Muslim nurse kept trying to get her to take off her cross necklace.
The nurse handled her very brusquely on purpose, almost to the point of roughing.
Luckily I was nearby, so my vigilance kept it from continuing or getting worse.
That was clearly a violent vicious 'attack'.. way beyond just abuse.

Yep. That’s not a charge you want to pick up in Florida. The perp is looking at an extended stretch in state prison.

I do likewise even for a surgical proceedure and Dr’s. They have a different mindset regarding ‘life’.
