Hmmm Levin seemed to think Hagerty was a Romneyite - there seemed to be plenty of evidence.

I really thought Manny Sethi was a strong alternative, but that’s now water over the dam

Sethi’s campaign staff is chock full of rabid never Trumpers. That is enough reason for me to be highly suspicious of the fella.

Trump won. And Cruz and Paul lost. Could be interesting.

Being in Tennessee and knowing the truth about the campaign, after reading this fluff piece it makes me wonder if I ever want to trust anything else Breitbart News says in the future about anything else.

Did Trump win with his endorsements of McCain and Romney?

But Hagerty’s win was not always certain. Sethi, a doctor who had moved back Tennessee after time in Massachusetts, had been on the upswing against him the past six weeks or so, surging in polls and picking up endorsements of key U.S. Senators like Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rand Paul (R-KY). Radio host Mark Levin also endorsed Sethi, all fueling energy behind the candidate who portrayed himself as the “real conservative” in the race.

But, then, a Breitbart News investigation uncovered that Sethi’s entire senior campaign team were Never Trump political consultants. His campaign chairman, his campaign manager, and his general consultant all had made a number of disparaging comments about the president. At the same time, two of Trump’s top allies in the U.S. Senate—Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), the freshman senator and top conservative from here in Tennessee—rode in behind Hagerty, endorsing him, bolstering his credentials over Sethi. Cotton campaigned with Hagerty in Tennessee a couple weeks ago, and Blackburn aggressively campaigned for him statewide after her endorsement. Cotton’s Super PAC blanketed Tennessee airwaves with ads helping Hagerty across the finish line.

[...]

At the urging of Cruz, Sethi’s team attempted to frame the attack ads against him as the “establishment” coming after him. It fit Sethi’s pre-crafted narrative of being an outsider crusading in against the vaunted “establishment.” But Hagerty and his team, with the president’s, Cotton’s, and Blackburn’s help, successfully countered this framing with framing of their own: That this was a race between economic nationalist populists and a different establishment, the old guard conservative establishment.

...this was a race between economic nationalist populists and a different establishment, the old guard conservative establishment.

Interesting.

Either guy would likely have made a fine Senator, I’m actually glad Hagerty won for the simple reason that if he would have lost, we would immediately see a million liberal media stories with headlines like, “TENNESSEE REJECTS TRUMP ENDORSED CANDIDATE”

Hagerty is great pals with Mittens Romney. You can't get more "Never Trump" than that.

Tennessee elected Fred Thompson to the Senate, where he decided his job was to amplify whatever John McCain said, not represent the people of Tennessee. Will Hagerty be Thompson II, s/McCain/Romney/ ?

I don't think this was really a consequential primary, but this item caught my eye and raised all kinds of red flags for me:

Sethi, a doctor who had moved back Tennessee after time in Massachusetts ...

Where have we heard this before?

Dont worry, the press soon will be all over Hagerty for his past favoritism in hiring Alexander and Corker family members for political advantage.

I gave $100 to Blackburn and she supported Hagerty. Good enough for me. Paul and Cruz had other fish to fry vs. Trump. But then I did the same for Thune back in 04’ and he ended up like the rest of them. At least he took out Tiny Tom. Then there’s Kobach. Too big a gamble(loser). Ayotte lost by a few hundred votes. WE failed even if she came up short as a senator. Just don’t go to the mat for Roy Moore types. I have no money for Collins but we have to hope she wins. Murkowski will get hers in 22’ only if our ornament Sarah takes her on which is questionable.

Of course, the article didn’t say a word about Hagerty having been a national finance chairman on Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign. And that’s one of the reasons I voted for Sethi. Tired of our RINO senators.

Having watched the primary from afar and having no dog in the fight, it kinda sounded like both Hagerty and Sethi were rather unpalatable.
