A record number of people from the country's largest metropolitan areas, including New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco, are flocking to smaller, more affordable cities amid the coronavirus pandemic, new data reveals.
A recent report by real estate company Redfin shows 27.4 per cent of website users were looking to move to smaller metro areas in the second quarter of 2020, with the top five destinations being Phoenix, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Austin and Atlanta.
The migration analysis was based on a sample of more than 1million Redfin users who searched for homes across 87 metro regions in the country between April and June.

We were on vacation in Rapid City, SD last year and attended a rodeo there. The rodeo clown did an informal poll of the audience, singled out a couple from Californa and made a joke like you can visit, but don’t move here.
Then he corrected himself and said, well, you can move here, but just don’t vote.

As devils advocate, what evidence do you have for your claim? Why do you not believe that moderates opposing the oppression are just leaving to obtain their freedom.
Oh, I hope you are correct. I do know two of my brothers and their families are moving to a southern red state from Illinois. They are very conservative and just fed up with Illinois policies. Guess we will find out. Maybe a percentage of them can be shown the light as well.

My husband runs a lumber yard and made a good sell with a furniture store owner yesterday. He said he hailed from NY and asked my husband about his ties to Houston. He described himself as one of those damn Yankees been in Houston for 40 years . My husband said he is 4th generation Houstonian and they talked affably in this manner. The guy made a comment about so many coming to Houston to which my husband replied just keep your voting ways out and the man said I cant help you there....

Like cancer, the progressive disease of Leftism (i.e., appropriately also known as “progressivism”) spreads quickly to infect a new site then kill the host. Democrat/Leftism/Progressiveism is truly a “stupid” disease.

Phoenix? I don’t know what’s worse. Illegal aliens or San Franciscans moving to the city.

We dont want them in Phoenix unless they can show their republican voter registration. They come here and bring their filthy liberal ideas and then vote for the same crap that caused them to move.Agreed. Although I'm not minding the 30% increase in property values every 2 years in our area. Never seen anything like it.
My wife is always pointing out that every other car seems to be from California or another state - in SUMMER! They ain't just visiting.

I dont think that one is being sarcastic. Seems to get incredibly defensive whenever NYC receives even minor criticism from other FReepers. But maybe Im the fool and its an ongoing bit.

Austin and San Antonio has a serious homeless problem. Less than 2 blocks from the state capital, there’s 1000’s of homeless people camped out on the street.
It makes the entire state look bad for any visitors.

I’ve heard that assertion a few times. Do you have numbers to support it?

NY and CA support you pathetic moocher red states that take more from the fed than they give but you cry like little girls if they come you way :)
You have numbers on that? Real numbers, not ones that include military spending (Federal payee), or stacked numbers that count all the FL retires as payments into the system while working in NY, but counts as payments out when they retire to FL?
