Dr. Anthony Fauci ran into a buzzsaw named Rep. Jim Jordan when the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases appeared Friday before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis.
The Ohio Republican asked Fauci a simple question, Do protests increase the spread of the virus?
After repeating the question, Fauci said, I think I can make a general statement
When the doctor paused for a moment, Jordan used the opportunity to point out that on June 6 alone, there were a half-million protesters.
Crowding together, particularly when youre not wearing a mask, contributes to the spread of the virus, Fauci then said, finishing his thought.
Jordan followed up by asking him if the government should limit the protests.
Fauci replied by saying that he didnt think that relevant.
When Jordan pressed on the matter, Fauci said, Im not in a position to determine what the government can do in a forceful way.
Well, you make all kinds of recommendations, you make comments on dating, baseball and everything you can image, Jordan replied, before asking again should the government limit protests.
No, I think I would leave that to people who have more of a position to do that, the doctor said.
The GOP lawmaker reminded Fauci that government is stopping people from going to church, citing the recent Supreme Court decision allowing Nevada to limit church services, before asking if theres a world where you can favor one First Amendment liberty protesting over another practicing your faith.
Im not favoring anybody over anybody, Dr. Fauci responded. Im just making a statement thats a broad statement to avoid crowds of any type no matter where you are because that leads to the acquisition and transmission. I dont judge one crowd versus another crowd.
Again, Jordan pressed for an answer, noting that while there have been 63 days of violent protests in Portland, there has been no violence in churches.
Fauci said he would not opine on limiting anything, only to have Jordan interject, You opine on a lot of things.
Well, Im not going to opine on limiting anything, Fauci told the lawmaker. Im telling you what it is, the danger and you can make your own conclusion about that you should stay away from crowds no matter where the crowds are.
Jordan explained that in New Jersey, two gym owners were arrested just for opening their business.
My bet is if these two individuals who own this gym were outside in front of their gym and all the people working out in the gym were outside protesting, they would have been just fine, he added. But because they were in the gym working out, actually running their business they got arrested. Do you think thats okay?
Again Fauci deferred, noting that as a public health official he can only point to the activities that should be avoided.
When Jordan asked if he could see the inconsistency, Fauci replied, There is no inconsistency.
Of course, Jordan was talking about inconsistency in the stance local and state officials are taking with protesters over businesses, while Fauci was talking about his remark on avoiding crowds.
So youre allowed to protest, millions of people on one day, in crowds yelling and screaming, but you try to run your business and you get arrested and if you stood right outside that same business and protested you wouldnt get arrested you dont see an inconsistency? Jordan asked.
I dont understand what you asking me as a public health official to opine on who should get arrested or not. Thats not my position, the doctor answered.
Jordan was quick to remind Fauci that he advocated for certain businesses to be shut down.
It was clear that Fauci had no intention of saying protests should be limited. In fact, when Jordan summarized Faucis remarks to suggest that he said protests increase the spread of the virus, the good doctor was quick to correct him.
I said crowds, he interrupted. I didnt say specifically I didnt say protests do anything.
Jordan pressed for clarity, So the protest dont increase the spread?
I didnt say that, youre putting words in my mouth, Fauci said, unable to hide his frustration any further.
Not to be deterred, Jordan kept pushing him on whether protests increase the spread of the virus?
Instructively, Fauci said he didnt have any scientific evidence of that, again falling back to say crowds are known, particularly when you dont have a mask, to increase the acquisition and transmission.
Simply put, he would not use the phrase protest over crowds, likely knowing full well the political ramifications on the left for doing so.
Jordan exposed Fauci for the deep state fraud he is.
Faux’s supporters here won’t care.
If there are a half million people protesting, social distancing is physically impossible and COVID isn’t going to care if you’re wearing a mask or not.
Fauci is owned by progressives (=Soros), now unavoidably seen.
Birx is, too.
This is week-old news.
Fauci has done at least a half-dozen outrageous things in the meantime to top this.
I took all kinds of crap here the other day for interpreting a Trump tweet to mean that Dr. Birx was “pathetic”.
I’ve slept on that and I stand by my statement.
She threw her boss under the bus.
That is a pathetic act.
Which makes her pathetic.
Jordan’s questioning was tepid. He could’ve ACTUALLY been unmerciful. Didn’t even point out the hypocrisy of Fauci being OK with hook-up sex with strangers connecting online, but churches had to lock down.
I was waiting for JJ to get tough like he was with Vindman, Yovanovitch, etc., in Russia hearings.
There are SUPEREVIL INDIVIDUALS on planet earth. Many are Americans. There are many, many others internationally. There are many, many others in America.

Theres your WHITE PRIVILEGED and 1/2 WHITE PRIVILEGED.
Amen brother.
What we really need to do is to organize a giant Fire Fauci protest at the US Capitol. I have a feeling Dr. Tony would suddenly decide that protests really DO spread the virus.
Fauci and Byrx were known for their leftist affiliations before the COVID scamdemic. So, the question I keep asking is: Why did Mike Pence give them to us? He was in the DC Swamp long enough to either have heard of their leftist affiliations or he would have at least known people who were aware of them.
The Republicans are useless.
“...interpreting a Trump tweet to mean that Dr. Birx was pathetic.”
I agreed with you. Trump is treading carefully while knowingly surrounded by the jackals he was cast into (by Pence).
Pray for President Trump.
Agree....saw the whole thing...”Crowds” = Protesters.
“Why did Mike Pence give them to us?”
Have you seen this one on PEPFAR? Its 45 minutes but...wow!

In a nutshell:
CDC/PEPFAR (Birx, Fauci, Pence) > Global Fund (Birx, Gates, vaccines, $10s of billions from Fed>via PEPFAR) > UN Development Program (oversees GF spending with closed books via special immunity, gets $100s of millions from Fed for administering) > GF grant recipients (a mystery).
Jim Jordan need to spend some of his time grilling Fauci on his personal financial holdings in vaccine makers.
Excellent idea. And for those that didn’t see the questioning from Jim Jordan, it was very telling. The article can’t capture the way Fauci was literally squirming around in his chair when Jordan was drilling him. The body language of the mad doctor said it all. Literally a cat on a hot tin roof.
In early July I had the feeling Trump might have been thinking of replacing Pence on the ticket with Kristi Noem. But since she’s not a masker the Karens would never go for it.
The only thing that will really do it, is if someone of journalistic note does a story on the millions Fauci has personally taken from patents he actually owns on drugs that have passed through his agency.
That’s it. His actual record as an expert cannot be worse. That actually doesn’t matter. The models he used as a pretext to shutting it all down - not enough. The death caused by the interventions, that have never, ever been done for any other pandemic with R0’s way, way higher than the Chinese Bioweapon - not enough.
If its shown that this was done, ultimately, to make him richer than he already is? Maybe, but I don’t know.
Oh, and his daughter works on AI algorithms at either Google or Facebook, I can’t remember which. Ali is her daughter’s name.
All of this corruption is a family business. The US was much, much better off when the Five Families were running organized crime out of Chicago and NYC. The irony of that - on both sides of the aisle they ripped that crime-business model off and made it completely bullet proof by demanding that no perpetrator could turn on any other perpetrator due to all perpetrators holding evidence of unspeakable crimes.
They saw how ‘omerta’ fared, and needed something better. Pedophilia, and worse, was the answer. And everybody who’s on the inside has to play, or you are NOT in. Nobody unaccountable on the inside.
Hence the panic and the unprecedented crap we are seeing out of certain folks on both sides of the aisle.
I like Jordan and dislike Fauci, but Jordan’s question was silly and made him look as bad as the Dims with Barr. Fauci should have just said, “Crowds of any type increase the chances of transmission. Whether any type of crowd should or can be prohibited is up to the politicians and courts not me.”
