This is a summary of the great interview of Drudge biographer Matthew Lysiak on the free Derek Hunter podcast which you should subscribe and listen to.
-Yes, Drudge is a homosexual
-Trump 2016 campaign and Drudge worked hand in glove on communications.
-On election night, Kushner and Bannon were starting to finger point. He called them morons and to sit and watch, that Trump was going to run the table including Pennsylvania.
On his leftward tilt:
-He was never a conservative but a libertarian opportunist. Breitbart, his earliest editor, was a true conservative.
-Drudge spiked many stories about Jeremiah Wright and sort of boosted Obama bc of the traffic opportunity he sensed (correctly) of his election
-he is dismayed by the rise of social media but always figured it was inevitable that another medium would replace him.
-every decision he makes is a very calculating business decision
On whether he sold the site:
-since he refused to be interviewed, he can only go by anecdotal stories:
-he showed up at Breitbart's funeral which happened right before the new Breitbart site launch, he was overheard telling someone that when he (Drudge) died, his site would go with him.
-some time ago, a very wealthy sports owner or coach that we'd all recognize offered him an enormous sum of money for the site and he turned it down.
-the author has a daughter who runs some small time news site or blog or something and Drudge has linked her site a lot of times.
It doesn’t matter if he sold the site or not. The site is now anti Trump and that is enough to avoid it. I haven’t visited that site in years and have no plans to do so.
There are simply too many alternatives.
Like David Brooks, another pickle sniffer who used to be nominally conservative (wrote the Troopergate expose on Slick Willie), then went completely to the dark side and now runs Media Matters. Wouldn’t be surprised if Drudge and Brooks are butt buddies.
Mine as well. I do not miss it now.
AS I said there are just so many alternatives.
I haven’t visited for years...couldn’t care less what happens to the site.
Is Brooks a fag? That would explain a lot.
Same... And I still consider myself relatively libertarian from a philosophical sense only.
Politically, the LP was co-opted by Left-wingers when Harry died and hasn’t been the same since.
I was skeptical about Trump. He proved me wrong on a number of fronts, much to my delight. Eager to see what he does with his Second term.
His 15 minutes are up.
The novelty has worn off.
His sort of like Prodigy and MySpace now.
Good luck with that.
Who cares? What a waste of bandwidth...
From February 1997 to about June 2004 my federal Freedom of Information Act lawsuit to obtain public release of photos of Vincent Foster's dead body in Fort Marcy Park was in the courts. Drudge never linked to anything about that case, despite many newsworthy events. He finally linked to a story stating that the Supreme Court would hear the case.
NOBODY gives a shit about Drudge.
I still read it a few times a month. Not nearly as much as I did for over 10 years, though. Now, I sort of put it off.
I’ll think ‘What is the absolute worst angle on any White House story one could read for today?’ If I’m ready to take that dose of Castor Oil, I may take a peep at Drudge.
I dread it these days, same as I feel about Politico or Yahoo News.
I’m no longer trying to figure out why Drudge changed.
As the president said “It is what it is”. Everything changes eventually.
I wonder how many copies the biographer will sell? Seems Drudge/DrudgeReport is very much past being relevant.
It is David Brock who is head of Media Matters. Not David Brooks, who is an NYT opinion writer.
Thank you for your summary.
David Brooks is just a right-leaning moderate.
David Brock also wrote "The Real Anita Hill" which he subsequently apologized for.
Ive looked at many of them and found www.rantingly.com to be the best, all in... what drudge used to be, only better layout and format
