Out-of-state travelers could face up to $10,000 in fines if they break New York Citys two-week quarantine rule and checkpoints will be set up at entry points into the city, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.
Currently, travelers from 35 high-risk infection states and Puerto Rico must quarantine for 14 days. Those flying into New York airports are also required to fill out a special travel form or face a $2,000 fine.
The new crackdown includes random checkpoints at major bridge and tunnel crossings and up to $10,000 fines for those caught breaking quarantine.
The idea is we dont want to penalize people, de Blasio said at his daily press briefing. We want to educate them, we want to make sure theyre following the rules.
He added, The important thing is the checkpoints are going to send a very important message that this quarantine law is serious.
New York City Sheriff Joseph Fucito said the checks at key entry points into the city will be random and that his deputies will be very visible.

May God Help the USA. Help US right the ship of state and survived this insanity.
After NYers seeded everywhere else.
When the virus was BAD in NEW YORK CITY folks here wanted a WALL BUILT AROUND IT.
And they DIDN’T WANT anyone to BE ABLE to leave.
Now that our rates are all the way down and theirs are all the way up, they see things differently.
Hypocrisy, thy name is (put your state name here) :)
And you SURE DID cry like little girls about it :)
The effect of this will be no one in their right mind will want to do business in or with New York City. Why would any multinational want to stay in NYC if this comes to pass?
And the left has the gall to call conservatives Nazis
NYC caused the epidemic in the U.S.
This is sick.
What about those entering illegally from other countries?
Policy is not law; it’s just some tyrant’s way of bullying people.
lol good luck enforcing that!
Didnt Texas impose similar restrictions, including checkpoints at the Louisiana border, back in April?
I’ve driven in virtually every state in the Union. I will never drive in NYC. I have zero desire to.
I have even less desire to actually go there. If I really need to see NYC, I’ll just watch “An Affair to Remember”. But I here the city is not exactly as it is portrayed in that movie. Less muggings.
What if you are just traveling through NY?
Only watch the original “An Affair to Remember.” NOT the remake with Warren Beatty which sucked.
Who in their right mind would even go to NYC? Since I worked there in the mid-70s to mid-80s, it’s turned into an even worse sewer.
I didn’t know there was a remake. :)
You’re lucky.
When is De Blasio up for election?
Then he’ll wonder in a month, why there is NO TOURISM there. On the bright side, they’ll have lots more hotel rooms to use for housing the homeless.
Why would we want to go to NYC??
