Several people were arrested on Sunday night after police and protesters clashed in Cottonwood Heights.
A large police presence was at the rally, and both officers and protesters were injured. Cottonwood Heights police say the arrests happened after demonstrators did not comply with their requests to clear the street and the protest turned violent. Local leaders expressed their concern about the police response on social media.

Peaceful for the most part until it wasn't. WTH happened? Did a platoon of PDJT storm troopers appear and cause the PROtestors to become 'un-peaceful'?

Route the riot to the “leaders”’s homes. THEN see how they feel about police response.
Citizens have a right to travel freely on the public roads and areas in their cities.
Thugs do not get to take those rights away.

I guess this is in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area but it sure isn’t very apparent in the link.

So naturally it was the fault of the police officers that the rioters turned violent.

Well, Utah is a big state. :)

Doesn't look like Mormons to me, looks like your typical Antifa white trash, although one of the five perps pictured in the link might be partially ethnic.
And, no morons, you do not have a first amendment right to protest, peacefully or otherwise, by blocking a public street. The police did not overact if the reporting here is correct. They should have been allowed to pass out some wooden shampoos.

Rioting for the sake of rioting is not a “protest” of anything concrete and definable. What’s going on is simply a mob mentality fueled by a number of things include COVID crackdowns and a failing economy. Any legitimate issues about police targeting blacks for traffic stops and such have been subsumed by anarchy. History has shown that we must now either insist that government establish an orderly society, or we fight for ourselves and do away with bad leaders. There is no middle ground.

“Local leaders expressed their concern...”
Who would these ‘local leaders’ be. City officials or is ‘leader’ kind of like ‘Indian elder’, a title one gives oneself.

Cottonwood Heights is an upper middle class neighborhood right up against the Wasatch mountains in east central Salt Lake city metro area.
I cannot recall a single instance of something like this happening there in the last 1/2 century. It’s totally peaceful and even pastoral.
Mittens lives up above in Olympus Cove, where all the Mormon heavyweights hang together.

Cottonwood Heights is a city located in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, along the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley. It lies south of the cities of Holladay and Murray, east of Midvale, and north of Sandy within the Salt Lake City, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Following a successful incorporation referendum in May 2004, the city was incorporated on January 14, 2005. Cottonwood Heights had been a Census-designated place before incorporation. The population as of the 2010 census was 33,433. This is a significant increase over the CDP’s 2000 census count of 27,569.

Cottonwood heights is about 15 minutes from downtown Salt Lake. Nicer area. There is a reason that they dont protest downtown. Its because the Salt Lake City cops kicked their asses out of downtown. Now they are just a bunch of wannabes trying to get on the news.
It’s Utah. Trump will win big and it doesn’t matter what Mitt and the Utah establishment republican RINO party says or does.
The real question is whether Salt Lake democrats will vote for Burgess Owens, a tough black man or the wimpy white guy. The hypocrites will vote for the white guy while chanting BLM! BLM!

Citizens have a right to travel freely on the public roads and areas in their cities. The intent of the response of police to thuggish disruptions of it is to restore order and keep the freedom of right-of-way secure.
