Something fishy about this. Stolen in FEBRUARY? This sounds like a false-flag op, designed to inflict maximum image and media damage on the cops.

And they brutally executed that one perfect guy.

Our species is doomed to destruction. Only by grace will we escape.

When they made the stop didn’t they check the driver’s license and see that it was registered to the driver?

I’m not up on the details of police procedure, but when stopping a reported stolen car, maybe they need to have the name of the person it was stolen from handy when checking.

The may have followed procedure, but if procedure results in young teens face down in cuffs when there was no underlying crime, that is a problem.

Things are tense enough without adding this to the mix.

In all fairness to the police,

In all fairness to the cops, they should have CORRECTED their database when they screwed up the FIRST time.

The video is heartbreaking. What a screw-up.

There are much better articles, this one is crap.

The stolen motorcycle that had the same plate number which led the cops to handcuff and force the family to burn themselves on hot asphalt at gunpoint was from another state.

The cops f’d up big time

Officers determined Gilliam’s car was not stolen and had been mistaken for a stolen motorcycle with the same license plate number from Montana, KUSA reports.

Yeah I mistake minivans for motorcycles all the time. </sarcasm>

Can I hold you to a mistake free standard?

If my mistakes cost people their lives then I would hope you would.

When the police made the mistake, the family members heard “KA-CHING!”

Should police officers have heard, "Your fired?"

Stolen in FEBRUARY? This sounds like a false-flag op, designed to inflict maximum image and media damage on the cops.

And recovered the next day. Sounds more like a major-league screw up by the police record-keeping. But that's only part of the problem. The police were correct in the license plate number when they stopped the car. But the plate in question was for a motorcycle registered in Montana and not a minivan registered in Colorado. Not a shining moment for the Aurora Police Department under any circumstances.

> How much are you willing to pay someone for your mistakes... <

Such things happen all the time. Many years ago I was playing catch with my nephew at my dad’s house. My nephew made a throwing error and a window was broken. My mistake for standing too close to the window. I paid for a new window.

In the above example there was physical damage. But mistakes can sometimes cause emotional damage, “pain and suffering”. And I think being the innocent victim of a felony stop falls under that category.

That doesn’t mean that those cops are evil! They just made a mistake. And you should pay for your mistakes.

As long as the payout money is not outrageous, it’s no big deal. And it’s also the right thing to do.

Two grand to each girl each sounds about right to me.

“they should have CORRECTED their database when they screwed up the FIRST time.”

Rarely are these databases maintained locally for a small locality; they’re usually nationwide. It probably wasn’t the responsibility of this particular police force to go in and update a database.

It's easy to see how young kids would be scared if a cop told them to lie face down.Given that the car wasn't stolen the stop shouldn't have happened.

There will be at least one pretty big payout...and the family could decide to make themselves national martyrs...making them even richer.

““You can’t hold them to a mistake-free standard.“

.... I beg to differ, especially when a mistake by the police can cost you your life.”

And a mistake by a cop can cost his own life.

Oh yeah, walk up to the driver of a possible stolen car and get shot in the face. That is what a felony stop is for. Stop bloviating without any knowledge.

Could have been worse: Link to the article: https://www.cnn.com/2016/01/27/us/christopher-dorner-manhunt-officers-cleared/index.html Excerpt from the article: " Women received settlements "I sympathize with the officers, but I have a very high standard for the application of deadly force, and the shooting did not meet that standard," Beck told reporters a year after the shooting. All eight violated department policy, and "discipline could be anywhere from extensive retraining up to termination," the chief said, adding that the officers were taken off field duty. State law prohibited him from providing specifics about the punishment, he said. Despite the chief's finding -- and despite the City Council awarding the women a $4.2 million settlement and, separately, $40,000 to replace their bullet-riddled pickup in the months following the shooting -- the county district attorney's office noted that the chief's decision required a lower burden of proof than did the leveling of criminal charges."

My oldest son is a young rookie cop and his uncle a retired cop of 35 yrs. begged him, pleaded with him and begged me don’t let him become a cop. He told my son the left hates you period, some conservatives hate you because they expect perfection 24/7/52 which is not possible for any human and will turn on you at the drop of a hat and throw you under the bus for an honest mistake.

Very few citizens actually are grateful and if you make a mistake big or small both sides will crucify you based on media reports before the full story can come out. And if you do make a mistake and own up to it they will not accept an apology and yet when it hits the fan they expect you to show up and help them.
