Parents across the country are facing big questions about schools reopening in the fall. Will they open at all? If they do, what will school be like for the kids? Schools have reopened in Europe and Asia without problems. Surely, the same can happen in the United States, right? In California, the decision on whether to reopen schools seems to be largely a political one. As PJMs Rick Moran noted, Liberal Los Angeles will be closed, conservative Orange County will open. Its sad, but thats how America rolls these days.
Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, says school most definitely should reopen in the fall, and not only that, it is in the public health interest to do so.
I dont think I can emphasize it enough, as the director for the Centers for Disease Control, the leading public health agency in the world, it is in the public health interest of these K-12 students to get the schools back open for face-to-face learning, Redfield told the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis on Friday. Mental health services, 7.1 million kids get in school. Nutrition, we talked about. Reporting of child abuse, sexual abuse: mandatory in schools. The isolation that these adolescents are feeling, that now is associated with increasedas you mentionedincreased drug overdose deaths and now increased suicides.
I think it is really important, as a grandfather, eleven grandkids, I want these kids back in school. I have one grandchild with cystic fibrosis. I want it done smartly, alright?

Children are far more at risk from seasonal flu than COVID-19. With that in mind, schools need to approach reopening schools in a manner that is designed to protect those who are at risk: those with other illnesses, or teachers in higher-risk age groups. But, kids need to be with other kids, and parents need to be able to work. If the CDC director understands that we can do this, we should all be able to understand this.
Yeah but nea and aft say nope.
Aww. How sad for the teachers. The CDC won’t back their scheme to get paid for doing even less than usual.
All the CDC has to do is stipulate that voting in schools is still far too dangerous to ever contemplate this November and most of those teacher union objections will suddenly vanish.
You can't be a fear-mongering @sshole in a Federal bureaucracy or a governor's mansion, and then act surprised when people start to take your fear-mongering at face value.
The Democrat Leftist Unions are telling their troops, the teachers to stay home and earn a free paycheck and do it for the cause.
Science will always affirm what we want to hear.
We live in a dual income family and single mom world. of course K-12 full time, summer camps, before and after school programs are safe and best for their development. Science will show that this is best for their “socialization” and of course Covid poses no risk. LOL
There will be no normal school...they have parents scared to death about the virus.....

Some Freepers now cite the CDC as a credible source of advice for societal decisions.
Never thought I’d see the day.
The current craziness of society has pushed our country even further into the left/right dichotomy.
Anything that suits one’s pre-drawn conclusions, no matter the source, is acceptable now.
CDC: ChiCom Disinformation Center.
All schools should be open, no restrictions. All business should be open, no restrictions.
The curve has been flattened, the hospitals are not overrun. There is absolutely no logical reason for any of this.
Enough already!
This guy doesn’t care about children or the brave teachers who will be exposed to the most horrible virus in human history.
He hides under the rubric of public health interest???
WTH?
all of the above is sarcasm
Anyway, as head of the CDC why isn’t his voice rising above Dr Falsi?
If children, the carriers of the flu and cold can go back to skrewel, then why can’t America go back to work without the phony contrivance of face coverings.
