Im sad that I missed the prom last spring. Im sad that I missed my final day of 11th grade and saying goodbye to my graduating senior friends. Im even sad that I missed studying for finals and taking AP tests in a crowded gymnasium and experiencing the exhausted feeling of relief that follows.
But that doesnt mean I think we should have kept schools open. Unhappy as I may feel, I know the momentary joy of a school dance, even one as momentous as prom, was not worth the accompanying danger to public health. I know that school closures and self-quarantines were necessary measures to keep our community healthy and safe.
We know that to return to school, we need detailed plans to protect students and school employees, ones that follow health recommendations. We know we cant simply go back to life as usual. So why doesnt our government?
Over the past weeks, White House officials have called for a return to a pre-pandemic education system. Last week, Trump threatened to withhold federal aid from schools that do not reopen fully, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began recommending that schools return to in-person teaching.
These directives are infuriating. With COVID-19 cases continuing to rise, the administrations efforts to force me and my peers back into crowded buildings without protection reveal just how little they care for our well-being and for the well-being of our at-risk friends and relatives.
The inability of our policymakers to grasp a concept that a fifth grader could understand is highlighting something students have known all along: Our voices matter.
We wont go back to a school thats unconcerned with our health and safety. We wont listen to the mandates of a school system that wont listen to us.

Pretty tired of the know nothings that can only parrot what they hear on the MSM.
Commiecast, not Comcast
I get all of my societal advice from teenage girls.
They are truly the voice of logic and dispassionate thought...
You’d think her dad would provide a real-life perspective of what fear and complacency does to liberty ... then again, he’d likely have to take off his face diaper to make the point and that would be unacceptable to CNN, MSNBC and the dwarf.
Don’t go then. Flunk.
Make HCQ and ZINC SULFATE OTC drugs and pandemic over.
Anyone who develops a cough or feels like a fever get on meds, don’t wait to be tested, then its too late.....In the meantime, take a Zicam twice daily............
An aside - When I was 17, all I cared about was playing sports, lifting weights, cracking jokes, and trying to get laid. Who are these kids?
As a 61-year old male, I know who minds the kids when schools don’t operate - grandma.
Grandmas are likely to die from Covid, but kids are not.
We need to protect grandmothers as the highest priority.
Wonder who her parents are...
They need to remake the Who’s “My Generation” for today. But make it all about cowering unless you’re yelling at people from a distance.
Cornth MS has a teacher with COVID 19 BIO-WEAPON, Memphis has a grade school child, which means whole class is in quarantine in both cases
As long as she’s a “rising high school senior”, then she’s totally qualified as a NBC/CCP expert.
The fact that rioters have no problem coming up to people and beating them says otherwise.
so -living close to Charlottesville. - a HUGE leftist city in Virginia — she had some time to kill while she waited for another detail to get complete... walked into the Fashion Square Mall -— most every one ins there she said (except employees) were wearing masks below their chin or pulled down below their noses... so, if this is such a HUGE concern by parents & teachers -— one would suspect it’s a lie — and it comes down to trying to make President Trump look bad... Even the store employees would wipe counters and CC machines down with a “dusting: micro fiber cloth -— the same one ... More or less, no one is taking COVID serious any more...
I’m not saying it’s not killing people - it is — but if the leftist are using it for political reasons -— then the Conservative need to use to re-gear the economy and push the leftist ideology out of our education system.
My wife pulled our kids out of public school 5 yrs ago — they learn more - better adjusted to life - and they are safe. I think with technology - kids can get their education and can play in the neighborhoods, video chat, and be relatively safer than in Marxist run public school system...
I would like to see block groups of home schoolers for parents that have to work outside the home - but drop their kids off with a family during those hrs just to get their work done and then hang around... mini-schools so to speak... in the end, the Teacher Unions need to be starved out of existence !
I’ll get off my soap box now...
There was a video on Twitter of a man with nothing but his mask straps around his neck and not over his mouth and nose walking into a pizza restaurant, threatening a patron without a mask, then kicking over the display stands and breaking it then storming out.
David Hogg comes to mind.
Grandmother Lives Matter.
Let the totalitarians who created this mess with their cavalier attitudes toward business owners deal with the disaster they created.
