More than two dozen Democrats are demanding Defense Secretary Mark Esper allow service members to fly LGBT Pride and Native Nation flags, which were banned when Esper issued a broad flag policy that was intended to target the Confederate battle flag.
We ask that you immediately revise the new policy on flag display, explicitly ban the Confederate battle flag, and ensure that service members can express support for diversity and inclusion through the display of sovereign Native Nations and LGBTQ Pride flags, the Democrats wrote in a letter to Esper released Friday.
The letter was organized by Democratic Reps. Anthony Brown (Md.), Jackie Speier (Calif.) and Chris Pappas (N.H.) and co-signed by 31 other House Democrats.
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter.
At issue is a policy Esper released earlier this month as military leaders clamored for a ban on the Confederate flag after symbols and tributes to the Confederacy became a flashpoint of the nationwide protests against racial injustices and police violence.
The new policy does not explicitly ban the Confederate flag. Rather, it specifies which flags are allowed, a list that does not include the Confederate banner, effectively banning it.
In not explicitly calling out the Confederate flag, the policy attempts to walk a fine line between removing a symbol that stokes racial tensions and not drawing the ire of President Trump, who has defended the display of the flag as a free speech issue.
But because the policy is broad, it also bans other flags that service members like to display, such as sports teams flags and the Jolly Roger pirate flag.
Advocates have also previously raised the alarm the policy hits the LGBT Pride flag.

Fly only the US flag. Problem solved.
hehe
There is only one flag for our military and nation.
Always demanding stuff. Gimme this, gimme that.. or you are an uncaring hateful bigot. That’s the modern democrat party.
So it occurs to me that the Democrats were ALWAYS against civil rights and it was they that developed the whole separate but equal concept that created the whole segregationist era.
I submit that these actions are the Democrats attempting to destroy the civil rights law of 1963 and reimpose the separate but equal philosophy.
This way they can return to their old tactics of divide and conquer.
Esoer will do as they demand.
Actually, I believe most or all of these are legal.

From the memo:
“Consequently, in addition to the American flag, Service members and civilian employees
are authorized to display or depict representational flags that promote unity and esprit de corps,
including:
Flags of U.S. States and Territories and the District of Columbia;
Military Service flags;
Flag or General Officer flags;
Presidentially-appointed, Senate-confirmed civilian flags;
Senior Executive Service (SES) and Military Department-specific SES flags;
The POW/MIA flag;
Flags of other countries, for which the United States is an ally or partner, or for official
protocol purposes;
Flags of organizations in which the United States is a member ( e.g., NATO); and
Ceremonial, command, unit, or branch flags or guidons.
This guidance applies to public displays or depictions of flags by Service members and
civilian employees in all Department of Defense work places, common access areas, and public
areas, including, but not limited to...”

Um- how about NO!
Yes, and there should be but one recognized American language, English! Think about the savings if public documents were only printed in English.
The Army cannot bar display of any of the Confederate flags but allow display of the rainbow flag or other political flags because that would be viewpoint discrimination and it is illegal.
The Army can ban all politically charged flags, but once it allows one, it must allow all.
The new policy is excellent. It allows flags that are official in nature, flags that are specific to the military, flags of our allies. It removes from the military personal flags, which try to send personal messages, reflecting that unit cohesion is improved when people don’t try to antagonize each other with personal agendas.
Always demanding stuff. Gimme this, gimme that.. or you are an uncaring hateful bigot. Thats the modern democratic party.
They are still terrible 3 year olds in adult bodies.
Wonder how many hold their breath, when they are demanding, until they pass out from lack of 02?
Carry a FAG flag and dress in drag!
Everyone has always mis-defined the Confederate flag and what it meant to Southerners. It was a symbol of pride for a devastated land. A statement that, “yes we surrendered, but we gave you a hell of a fight and we still stand as a proud people.” It was a symbol that reminded us of all the lives lost in a war that destroyed a country but not her people. You can’t abolish a culture. It will resist any way you try. The South did rise again and “our” flag reminds us that we are still a proud people. Bless your hearts.
Not any more, I’m afraid it really is the alphabet Army now. And Esper is a total failure, trying to please everyone pleased no one. he is a swamp creature who has to go, along with all three Service Secretaries.
native nations conducted genocides and were slavers, too, so celebrating their flags seems hypocritical in light of banning the confederate flag because it reflects slave culture
Ah yes....they hate bigotry, prejudice and Southerners.
Leftists never change.
