President Trump suggested this week the next coronavirus relief package could include a direct cash payment for American families that's potentially higher than $1,200.

"It may go higher than that actually," Trump during an interview Wednesday with ABC affiliate KMID in Texas. "I'd like to see it be very high because I love the people. I want the people to get it."

If Trump does a surprise $2400+, then he’ll be considered a savior. Lots of people on FR consider Covid mild or a flat out hoax, but it’s been real bad. Trump can take leadership real fast, and quick, if he pushes $2400. It’ll add to the debt but big deal. Inflation has been incredibly low for the last 30 years despite debt. I say help us, please!

This is not a Multiple Choice situation. There are 2 and only 2 choices. I know people would like to see a get out of jail free card or a wild card to play, but it’s not going to happen. Period. There is no point in searching for another way
THERE IS NO OTHER WAY AT THIS POINT IN OUR HISTORY.

It is Biden. Or Trump.
Marxism or Capitalism.
PERIOD

Yeah, I don’t have much of that myself. Good reminder.

I have some but my supply of Irish Spring (it’s cheap) is down to half. Waiting for another cheap sale on shampoo.

“I know one guy, unemployed, government housing, Obama phone chain smoker, and alcoholic . . . may also gamble. The last COVID relief money or whatever it was called was gone in a couple of days. Handing out cash is NOT the answer.”

My wife and I recently retired. We worked hard and planned ahead for this. Prior to the lockdown I played cash for a new vehicle, not a cheap one at that. We received checks when our expenses had actually gone done. This is absurd. We have been keeping a ledger and donating the money to worthy causes. I recently paid for surgery for a family’s rescue dog.

I feel for you...I really do. A lot of entertainers are needing something—anything to get through to next year...It is like half the country is trying to sell or somehow pry loose a little change from the other half that are able to work. This is a scenario that will not last long.

It breaks down to this: 1) open the entire country up and let life go on; 2) if states/locals are refusing to do this, then give American citizens temporary help to get through this crisis which has been brought upon them through no fault of their own.

I don’t know if there are any other choices available.

“Those who pay a lot of taxes get nothing back. Those who pay zero taxes get this full amount. This is not a tax rebate. This is our grandchildren’s debt.”

I pay taxes, I’m now retired and on a fixed income and am very much what I would describe as lower middle class. Most of my friends, both married and unmarried, are pretty much in the same boat. Very middle class. Yes the poor get a stimulus check too; many of this lower strata are the working lower class, such as waiters and bartenders, health workers, the hospitality industry, tourist industry, small shop owners, plus those down on their luck and out of jobs because of the virus.

The rich can weather this virus pretty well as compared to the vast amount of very middle class folks. You are “shortchanging” your children and grandchildren this very minute by paying taxes that go down a rathole, so often targeted to welfare recipients who get free everything whether they deserve it or not. The rich have more money, and therefore can get by adequately during this pandemic because they ARE rich. Those that suffer the most are the lower and middle working class who often get nada or next to it.

Let them finally get a piece of the pie when so many of them desperately need it now due to no fault of their own. At least these stimulus checks primarily hit the designated target, the forgotten working lower and middle classes who don’t mooch off of the gov’t teat and do pay a large portion of federal taxes collected and who will finally get a benefit too. That’s THEIR TAX DOLLARS; give it back to them in one big chunk.

You tell me how that is different than cutting their taxes owed to the IRS each year if the gov’t would even vote for a cut. Would you rather that Uncle Sam collect their money in IRS taxes each year to be doled out to whom the gov’t chooses as their choice of winners and losers, or giving the middle class a stimulus check directly that they can spend as they like. Under your scenario, we the middle class pay our taxes to the IRS each year, and they decide how to spend our money. With a stimulus check coming directly to us, WE choose how our tax dollars are spent.

Are you telling me that the gov’t should keep this tax money that you know will not go towards the deficit, as opposed to giving the middle class back their tax dollars to spend as they like. Give me your rationale. Sounds like you would prefer that the gov’t hang on to our money to spend up. Why in heaven’s name would you wish for that?

Trump is trying to apply a defibrillator on the heartbeat of this Country. It’s in cardiac arrest and it’s going to take a calculated shock to get it going again. Other doctors can add their wisdom and advice from their years of training and experience but it will do no good at this point. There isn’t enough time to debate and advise and research.

It’s time to hear ONE word, “CLEAR”

I am with you on that. We are doing what we can to russle up some dough...and right now all that we make through the website gets counted against the UI. Whatever. I make it here, I make it there—as long as we make something.

I planted a garden this spring and we have been eating those proceeds. Frankly the garden saved my sanity...I would go out and watch the seeds grow...

It is a war—whether agsainst the plague or against China, it is a war. The people need to be feed and housed to prevent revolution. Look back at history, during the Great Depression...violent riots...communists and fascists vying for America’s soul. Not much different that what is happening now.

Say what you will about FDR-—He kept the country from falling into total chaos.
If all it takes is for President Trump to spend imaginary money—then so be it. Some are scamming and others are wasteabouts...so be it...

But here are millions of Americans-—Trump supporters and detractors alike that are wondering how they are going to make it to next year. It is those people that need to be taken care of...because in a war no one gets left on the battlefield.

From a national financial standpoint, extending the program doesn’t bother me at all. The outlay can easily be recovered once the economy is free to operate. My only concern is the precedent of arbitrary base income “for all”.

My revenue situation is like a pendulum which I’ve become used to.over the decades. When the availability of $work$ is low, I invest in my skills and tackle the biz related tasks that have been deferred.

Your entrepreneurial reference was a good one.

Trump needs to take charge and open the entire country up. He needs to lead instead of passing the buck onto others. He is racking up debt that will cause more pain.

Trump has made a lot of poor decisions since March. He was better before all this Covid business started.

Some people think his decisions will lead to huge victory in November and will improve this country. Unfortunately his actions will not.

Joe ain't gonna run. He's now so far gone he barely knows his own name. They'll break the news about what's really his problem, which is al*****er's, and "regrettably" will have to pull him off the stage.

Who will run instead of him? How about someone who has now, at this point, given more campaign speeches than he has? By proxy, mind you.

And yes, we are at war.

Yep. That Democrats know they have to also paint Joe as a feeble clown.

They'll find some way to push a "last-minute replacement". Perhaps one that has suffered some sort of neurological damage.

That is a good analogy, defib. We're in freefall and some extreme money from the top is necessary.. I don't like it, but it's probably needed.

How can he open the country up when governors and city officials refuse to do it?

President Trump has done the best he could. He loves this country. I don’t think he can command state governors to completely do what he wants done.

Yes, definitely. And have been since one second after President Trump was sworn in.

The Democrats have tried everything.
