A Florida couple was jailed for allegedly breaking a mandatory quarantine order after they tested positive for the coronavirus, local officials said Thursday.
Jose Antonio Freire Interian, 24, and Yohana Anahi Gonzalez, 27, were arrested Wednesday evening at their Key West apartment and taken to the Stock Island Detention Center, authorities said.
The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County had issued an isolation order on July 21 to the pair, instructing them to stay at home for 14 days and wear masks around others, The Miami Herald reported.
But neighbors complained that the carefree couple had been breaking the rules.
Freire was spotted walking his dog, making trips to the grocery store and washing his car, according to a police report. Both had been seen leaving and returning home without face coverings.

So if no one but my household is in my.freaking fenced off yard? Then how does anyone, including myself, get it. Plus if these people have distance from anyone, they won’t spread it, unless they changed that too,

Recent arrests here. Looking at a $5,000 fine and a year in prison for breaking quarantine, and you will first be jailed for the quarantine period. If you have COVID you are looking at felony endangerment which is 10 years in prison.

It sounds like this couple went out of their way to be seen defying the rules of Lockdown. They could have done the shopping, the dog walking at night. Washing the car can wait. Of course, I’m one of those people who usually has a dusty car, until the neighbor kids start drawing pictures on the dirty windshield.
But don't they then have to be released from jail because of COVID-19 infectivity risks?
A bit like the old game of "Chutes and Ladders." They march into the jail cell, and then slide out to somewhere else.
