SSL auction in Byron Michigan, ending 28 July, 2020, from auction on line, cropped and scaled by Dean Weingarten
On 21 July, 2020, the Flint, Michigan government announced they would conduct a gun buy back sometime in the future. It was not clear when the buy back would occur, but the implication is it would be sometime before winter. The term buy back is an Orwellian phrase, designed to imply that all guns belong to the state, thus the state is buying them back. That is false. You cannot buy back something you never owned. From mlive.com:
Flint has just 98 sworn officers but will ramp up efforts to fill 14 vacant positions, targeting city residents for the open jobs, and residents will be offered $100 per handgun or $50 per long gun during a no-questions-asked, buy-back program that will be funded by philanthropic partners.
Dates and times of the buy-back program will be announced at a later time, Hart said.
A more correct term is gun turn in, as the guns are being turned in to the police. On March 4th, 2020, a bill prohibiting government funding of gun buy backs passed the Michigan house. The bill was put forward because research had found gun buy backs are not effective in reducing crime. From abc12.com:
State Rep. Annette Glenn proposed the legislation because she believes gun buybacks are not effective in removing guns from criminals or preventing crime.
There is no research to show buyback programs reduce crime, she said. However, there is research that shows criminals tend to steer clear of these types of programs and that gun owners use these programs to turn in broken and unwanted guns and use the money received to purchase new guns

The date for the auction is over, but the date for the "buyback" turn-in has not been announced yet.
In this market, I doubt they went cheaply. But, who knows? That SKS Paratrooper is a find.
I lived near Flint in the late 80’s. At the time it was said that Flint was the cheapest place in America to buy a hit on someone. $300 was the rumored price.
IMO not much of a deal. Most looked of poor, potentially unreliable or even dangerous quality, and you can reach your own conclusions as to price.
If the implication is to pick up some junk to deplete philanthropist bux then its still a poor bargain.
If you decide to go make sure you go armed
The Flint area is heavily Muslim and they dont like non-Muslims invading their space.
There’s a bucket list item of mine. Converting an old SKS with wood stocks to a detachable mag unit and a few other mods in lieu of just buying an AK. I almost did it, but got too good a deal on my AR to take the Nestea Plunge. Maybe someday.
If you had to have it shipped, that added another $40, and there is a $15 auction fee.
The magazine is missing.
I inherited two junk Saturday night specials that I wouldnt dare fire. It would be a great day if I could unload them @$100 each.
There were a few items that looked interesting.
In March, the auction house sold off a private collection.
Two Remington Lee rifles in 30-40, sporterized, but funcitional, documented as part of a 165 lot made for the Michigan National Guard, went for $165 and $220, which is a steal.
An Astra 300, looks like a WWII bringback with period holster, went for $380.
A black powder Cape Gun, in 12 gauge and .45 caliber, went for $340
A 9.3x16 gauge Drilling, in good condition, went for $705~!
A good condition C96 Mauser went for $1015!
Ever see the mosque about 20 miles south of Toledo?
It’s like you took a wrong turn and got off at the Baghdad exit.
I take em the other way. Buy em like the one pictured, and make em right.
Missing magazines are par for the course on those ganstaed SKSs. I have no idea what it would take, money-wise, to get the appropriate bayonet and cleaning rod, these days, but itd be a great project gun
Yes, I saw it shortly after it was built.
It took me totally by surprise.
Sitting in the middle of the fertile flat lands of NE Ohio it looks completely out of place.
And in my mind it is out of place.
That Remington 700 is interesting.
