Ted Cruz: Trump tweets have 'coarsened discussion'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday said he believed many of President Trump’s tweets have “coarsened discussion,” but praised the president for having “a backbone."

“So many of us are so sick and tired of Republicans that roll over and whimper when encountering the slightest resistance. And I think probably the best characteristic about the president is he’s got a backbone. And he will fight,” Cruz told conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt, when asked how the president has changed the Republican Party.

“Now I will say ... I wish his tone and some of the things he said were different,” Cruz added. “Many of the tweets I’m not a fan of, and I do think it has coarsened discussion. So that is a less-than-positive development.”

I posted this before the Donald even won. Donald is like his Mom, who was from the Island of Lewis, Scotland.

If anyone knows those people of those islands, they would know that the people will tell you what they think even if you dont like it.

The MacCleod Clans motto is-Hold Fast or Stand Fast.

I knew several older folks from those Islands when I traveled over there several times in the 90s..imagine most have passed on now. Never kept touch since 911, sad really.

Cruz is right. Sometimes Trump tweets like an obnoxious 12-year-old girl.

"You are taking the medea bait"

No, I'm actually listening to what Cruz said with his own big mouth, and responding to that.

Are you saying that you don't you believe that Cruz actually said that crap?   Here's another source -- go to about 1:30 of this audio-only clip, and hear it for yourself, directly from Cruz.

Trump evades the media block with his approach.

No one else could have done it. And Cruz, you would have been powned from before you made it to office.

Trump makes it all work through asymmetric warfare.

His unconventional approach is what is needed to telegraph through all the distortion to the American People.

What discussion was that, Ted? When Whoopi referred to President Reagan as "the ****ing President"? Shut your Cuban-Canadian pie hole.

Attacking the left is never obnoxious.

Ted Cruz: Finding ways to surrender to the left even when it’s no longer necessary or popular.

“Cruz’s comments in 2016 defending the mob in Chicago still sticks in my craw...”

Mine too.

It was an unbelievably cheap shot that set the Republican ticket back three weeks regardless who won the nomination.

Cruz will play whatever part he needs to play in order to advance his interests. At playing the part of a committed constitutional conservative, he’s better than most. But he already revealed his true nature back in 2016. The Chicago mob comments you mentioned are a good example, along with his refusal to endorse Trump at the convention.

It’s been in his interest since Trump was elected, to put the mask back on and cooperate fully with Trump, but it’s just political calculation. He likely is positioning himself to be the front runner for the GOP nomination in 2024. If he can convince the base that he’s pro Trump while giving a wink to the GOP establishment with comments like these in order to gain their support, he feels he’ll be hard to beat (never mind that he’s not a natural born citizen).

The GOP establishment’s strategy, post Trump, will be to co-opt his legacy, pretend to embrace his agenda, and go back to governing the same way they did before. They did the same with Reagan’s legacy. Hopefully Trump will weaken them enough over the next four years so that we can nominate a true patriot in 2024.

So; we should be nice to the MAGGOTS on the LEFT, I don’t think so.

It’s time we beat them with clubs and stones, just like they have been doing to CONSERVATIVES for the last 50 or more years.

If you can’t stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen.

We are at WAR, time people like you understood that and fought for your lives.

LADIES and GENTLEMEN; PREPARE TO DEFEND YOURSELVES!

I have no problem with Trump’s strategy. Sniveling and conceding the point to Democrats is what Republicans have been doing for decades. I would rather fight and lose, than be “civil” to the anti-American scumbags.
