Trump texts in the language of the average American which is about that of a 12 year old. Cruz is a lawyer and wants to talk in that kind of language that means nothing to the average American.
That is why his re-election was so close, not because Texas is going Blue.
As long as criticism is based on facts, and preferably accompanied by a suggested remedy, it can be constructive.
This is from the Hill so its fake news.
His base is not enough to win the election.
Hugh Hewitt, conservative talk show host? I must be thinking of someone else.
My colleague across the aisle. If I never hear one rino say that again it will be too soon
Every time I hear it I see John McCain with his thumb in the air.
They didn’t realize that they were in a fight for the heart and soul of a nation, now they’ve been on the ropes so long I believe they’ve lost the will to fight.
“It really is too bad that so many people on Free Republic are not able to think very deeply. They think only in terms of perfect and demonic, and are triggered by anything that does not 100% align with their preconceptions.
They believe that President Trump is Jesus Christ the Messiah, flawless in character and speech, and anybody who might have a critique of any little thing he has ever said or done is necessarily a Never Trumper .”
That’s a strawman argument when it comes to this particular discussion. Jeff and I were discussing a specific criticism leveled against Trump, and I was responding to that specific criticism citing events in 2016 to make my case.
I certainly wasn’t making a blanket defense of POTUS based on some supposed Messiah status being attributed to him. No, Jeff was claiming that Trump hurts his cause with comments like the one made against McCain. I pointed out that these type of comments helped him rather than hurt him. The results of the election bare that out. You might want to try and think a little more deeply yourself.
If Trump “shot himself in the foot” as often as people like Jeff claimed, he never would have continued to draw the massive crowds he did throughout 2016, nor would he have been elected president.
I agree with your defense of these things that our president has said and done. Honestly, I’d consider his directness and brashness and clarity — even his coarseness — to often be a VERY good thing for our nation.
Too often on FR, though, people see someone make a critique of something about the president, and they get triggered into labeling that person as a “Never Trumper.” That is needlessly divisive and unhelpful.
Some people are especially triggered by Ted Cruz, which is especially tiresome.
And you didnt get the sarcasm?
“Too often on FR, though, people see someone make a critique of something about the president, and they get triggered into labeling that person as a Never Trumper. That is needlessly divisive and unhelpful.”
In principle, I agree with you. But the fact is, we live in a very political world. Much, maybe even most of the time that a fellow Republic criticizes the President, there’s a political motive behind it, even when the criticism may have some merit. And when the criticism mirrors that of his critics on the left, that makes them even more suspect of an ulterior motive. When you’re at war, you avoid criticizing your General publicly, especially if the criticisms are minor criticisms of style rather than important policy disagreements. It gives the appearance of opportunism.
Exactly, Lyn' Ted only got reelected because President Trump dragged his sorry Canadian-Cuban a55 over the finish line.
Lyn' Ted is forever ungrateful, probably still envisions himself running for US president while NOT being a Natural Born Citizen and having been so thoroughly rejected last time. He's in league with Biden for lowest support of an alledged candidate or nominee. Heck, even both have issues with women and kids.
As expected.... Ted suggests the president should ease up on his Tweets. And many FR bozos go ape bleep against Cruz.
Now just today Trump Tweets that maybe we should postpone the 2020 elections.... and these same bozos go ape bleep against Trump.
His base is large enough to win reelection if Biden is losing his! Biden has a harder time with blacks then Hillary did! And independent voters who voted for Trump are staying with Trump as well. It is the Democrat Party that is imploding.
The Democrat base has reservations about Biden, but this doesn’t matter because they hate Trump so strongly.
Many don’t hate him enough to vote for Biden. They are witnessing the carnage that is occurring under the Democrats. Republicans were in the same situation with Romney. Many Republicans hated Obama but would not vote for Romney.
