Bioethicist Dr. Zeke Emanuel is predicting that up to 250,000 Americans could die directly from the coronavirus by the end of the year. In an interview with CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett, Emanuel, who is the vice provost for Global Initiatives and chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, slammed the Trump administration's response to the pandemic as "incompetent and pretty disastrous."
"Before the year is out, we'll probably have, I would think, between 220,000 and 250,000 Americans who died directly from COVID, not to mention those people who are dying indirectly," Emanuel said in this week's episode of "The Takeout" podcast. Emanuel singled out people with heart conditions or in need of cancer treatment who may not visit the doctor due to concerns about catching the virus as factors contributing to high indirect mortality rates.

As usual, the media drums up a quote for shock value.
The number itself isn’t out of the question. There’s 156 days left in the year. There’s 151,880 deaths already. That’s 629 deaths per day average between now and the end of the year to reach 250,000. We’re at a 7-day moving average of 964 deaths per day. Simple math says he could have claimed 300,000.
But I don’t think we’ll get there for a couple reasons. First, when flu season starts, everyone is going to freak out about being sick (every flu sniffle will be blamed on COVID) and they’ll isolate. People will see their friends getting sick (cold and flu bugs) and isolate more. All this will change behavior to dramatically cut the rate of spread.
Second, I think President Trump is going to be announcing the approval of a safe and effective SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in October (best October surprise ever!) That will get deployed to the front-line healthcare workers first, then hopefully on to more vulnerable folks and their caregivers. Once we reach that point, I think we’ll see daily deaths plummet. By early next year, I think most of this craziness will be behind us. President Trump has Americans positioned to get the vaccines first, thanks to a hefty multi-billion dollar investment. He knew way back in March that this could be a winning issue for him.
The more the media tries to sell this pandemic as the end of the world, the more President Trump comes out a hero when he announces it’s going to end. So let them keep dumping stories like this out in public for shock value. The real shock will be President Trump’s announcement and the election landslide victory he gets from it.
And when his “prediction” fails to come true, the media will disappear his words down the memory hole, hoping that no one will remember him.
Yeah, but if you take out the ones over 75 whom, according to Zeke, we would be better off without anyway, it will be a lot fewer than that.
Leftists like this WANT thousands of Americans to die if it insures Trump’s defeat.

Or until enough people are vaccinated. Smallpox didn’t disappear for 3,500 years... until everyone was vaccinated against it. Now it’s gone. Polio? Pretty much gone after the vaccine came out. Measles? Mostly gone. Mumps? Nope. Pertussis? Nope.
That’s why President Trump invested billions of Federal dollars in the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine efforts by backing the 5 best candidates (out of over 200 candidates worldwide). He knew that was the real way to end this while minimizing the death toll. He knew that was ultimately how we get everyone back to work.
The problem with vaccinations is that you can’t vaccinate people for a billion possible diseases and have the body remember every one of them. At some point, when you vaccinate for new disease, the body has to forget about an older vaccination.
Sure, the way they are counting Covid deaths, I’m surprised it’s not approaching half a million. Real deaths actually due to Covid, and counted the way they counted deaths in past flu seasons? Probably less than 100k, and closer to 50k, when all is said and done.
There’s no evidence any human being has ever reached that theoretical limit, assuming it even exists. I don’t even know what the mechanism would be for what you’re describing since the Memory B-cells are specific to individual pathogens.
We don’t vaccinate against every possible disease because it costs inordinate amounts of money to develop and test vaccines. We vaccinate against the diseases that cause significant death or bodily destruction (like with polio).
Covid doesn’t qualify as significant bodily or death destruction. It’s only a bit worse than the standard flu

How are they getting these numbers?
There are about 8,000 deaths every day in the USA on average for all causes . Factor 10 percent of the population is constantly testing positive with china virus since testing ramped up weeks ago, people with headaches or any ache going in for a test, so 10 percent is a good baseline for how many people will have tested positive when they die... 800 deaths per day!
It is of no coincidence that we have flat-lined at roughly 800 china virus deaths per day since the flu season peak back in late May. 800 deaths per day added to the tally now, no matter if people die in auto accidents or strokes , or whatever, if they tested positive its going down as a virus death...
If 8,000 people die naturally every day and 10 percent of the tests are positive, 156 days till the end if the year ,, that's 124,000 more deaths . Which added to today’s inflated count of 148,000, we will top 200,000 easily .
The harvest counting of deaths has to stop for this to end... why does Trump allow this to continue ?

152,000 dead Americans in just a few months is pretty significant.
Influenza kills about 37,000 people a year. SARS-CoV-2 has killed 4 years worth of flu deaths in 5 months. It is ABSOLUTELY worth having a vaccine for it. President Trump has led the way on this and provided much more funding than Gates or anyone else.
That’s why Americans will have the vaccine available first.
A vaccine will only be worth it if it might be a yearly thing and not just a one time thing.

Worth it to whom? The manufacturers? They’re going to make billions on it, even if it’s a one-time thing. There’s about 4 billion people out there who will be able to afford the shot and enough charity money floating around to fund probably another 2 billion.
So far, SARS-CoV-2 hasn’t shown a propensity for rapid mutation. It’s been remarkably stable. That’s great news for us.
Facts trigger some people. That’s why a lot of colleges and universities have safe spaces. Sounds like you might consider enrolling.
