The New Hanover County Sheriffs Office has ruled that UNCW Professor Mike Adams died by suicide. According to the agencys spokesperson, Lt. Jerry Brewer, after an investigation by detectives and the medical examiner, it was ascertained that Mr. Adams committed suicide with a single gunshot wound to the head. No other people were in the home and foul play is not suspected, he said.
Shortly after noon on Thursday, July 23, deputies responded to a welfare call at his home on Windsong Road in the Ogden area. The homeowner had not been seen or heard from in a couple of days, according to Lt. Brewer. Deputies at first werent able to gain access to the home due to all doors being locked. Once they were able to gain access to the home deputies found the homeowner, Mike Adams, deceased in a bedroom. Records from the 911 call revealed that a friend of Adams told the dispatcher that he had acted erratically for several weeks and was under a lot of stress.
The tenured professor of criminology and sociology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington was set to retire this week as part of a $500,000 settlement, following growing criticism for controversial social media posts he had made during his time at the university. Adams had supporters as well as detractors, including those who saw his online behavior as an exercise of his first First Amendment rights, according to prior reporting by Port City Daily. Adams classes were also popular with many of his students, earning him generally positive evaluations and several awards for teaching, according to his UNCW curriculum vitae.
It may be a suicide, but it just seems strange.................
not buying this crap at all.
Since he was about to receive a sizable settlement, that doesn’t make sense! PHOOEY!!!!
Mark Steyn suggested (in an article on his website) that if he did commit suicide, it might have been done out of despair from being sued, harrassed, threatened, fired/canceled, and ostracized by peers from polite society. Simply for stating his opinion based on the Constitution.
I get Steyn’s point: there are warriors in the public sphere out there defending our freedoms in the arena of ideas. How do we support them? Steyn points out that it is with defeaning silence.

Yeah I don’t think so either. Nobody offs themselves when they are about to go into retirement with a 1/2 million payout in a lawsuit victory.
Like so many of who admired his work, I am incredulous over the possibility that he did take his own life. Hard to accept.
It’s not hard to accept...I want to see the evidence.
I totally agree.
Nor do I believe he was acting erratically. Everyone is doing differently now due to the shutdown; and it is summer at the shut down universities. What was erratichis schedule? Everyones is. Id have to hear particulars from a direct witness. I agree with the above postwhere is the note? Was there a recent change in his will, or his life insurance? Did his computer reveal anything?
I hope his father and/or sblings will hire an independent investigator. Someone one FR yesterday said that the Sheriff is a Democrat.
Untrue. His students gave him high ratings and his classes were heavily subscribed. Campus identitiy activists may have hated the idea of him; but they did not know him. Those who did know him, his students of Criminal Justice, have posted heartfelt thanks and other tributes at the funeral hime obituary site one of the freepers posted above.
Im one of many who do not believe he committed suicide. It is totally out of character.
