Aurora police arrest person of interest in Elijah McClain protest shooting
By: Óscar Contreras Jul 28, 2020
AURORA, Colo. A person of interest wanted in the shooting of two people during a march calling for justice in the death of Elijah McClain in Aurora last Saturday has been arrested.
Samuel Young, 23, was arrested on four counts of attempted homicide, police said in a news release late Monday night.
Young reportedly fired a weapon as a Jeep drove into the crowd that was marching on Interstate 225 on Saturday. At least two people were injured as a result of the shooting, with one person being shot in the leg and another suffering a graze wound to the head, according to police.
Police released photos of Young Sunday evening, which were provided by a witness, in hopes it would help Aurora investigators determine his identity. The department tweeted Monday that thanks to several tips they were able to identify the person in the photos, saying Monday evening Young was the person of interest in the photos.
Investigators are still urging anyone with pictures or videos that show the actions of the Jeep driver, prior to driving through the group of protesters, to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers. They also ask that any witnesses of that incident contact t Sgt. Jeff Longnecker of the Major Crimes/Homicide Unit for an interview.
The Aurora Police Department said it continues to investigate other incidents of violence during the protest march on the highway.
One of the organizers called in to the Dan Caplis radio show and said it was the police departments fault for letting the Jeep on the highway they they were blocking. They had the Mayor on first and he’s not happy about this. They’re planning a larger protest/riot for next month.
Now he’s a person of arrest.
Im sure an Obama Judge will let him off with a warning. Or perhaps the Obama Judge will order him to attend training at a shooting range to improve his ability to hit targets more effectively. Anybody wanna bet?
It should be against the law for anyone to block a taxpayer funded asphalt lane.
Any damage to the protester, driver, citizen or property should be on the shoulders and wallet of the protesters and their group tenfold since they know the risk and accept it by KNOWINGLY breaking the law.
It was an otherwise peaceful shooting.
This seems to be a pattern. They block a street, and when a driver tries to get by, they block him, accuse him of trying to run people over, and attack him.
We live in insane times. The mostly peaceful protesters (aka rioting mobs) are armed.
Person of interest? No such thing legally
Everybody should be carrying in their cars to fight fire with fire.
This will not fizzle out anytime soon. I’m betting it’s the status quo for years once Trump wins again.
We need snipers on rooftops or concealed along roadways locating these POS during riots so they can take them out.
One would think.
I like pistol carbines with a forward flash hider to take the blast forward instead of the sides.
Definitely a pistol in that same caliber. 9mm is good enough.
Some folks think rifle calibers are needed. I’m not so sure about that since those are longer distance rounds and cumbersome to take out of your car.
The point is to escape not sustain a firefight.
There was no parade permit, so there was no ‘marching’ on the highway. There was rioting on the highway.
Nothing like a summer wedding...somebody’s about to get married to the guy on the cell block with the most cigarettes.
Mommys sweet little baby.
The article says that the Jeep ran into the crowd but in actuality he drove through the crowd. I have seen no evidence that the Jeep hit anyone.
Just like George Floyd on Judge Judy when he was 16. Early in his criminal career. He blamed the police for the wrecked car he had just carjacked.
Judge Judy Amazing Cases Ep34
Carrying a 9mm in car these days with a few spare mags, glock 19 FWIW or mp shield. I also have a Baretta 9MM storm carbine with a few spare mags along with a few boxes of 9mm ammo. Problem with a long gun is it difficult to maneuver in a pony car. The carbine is just about right sized for that. My ammo of choice is the FED 9BPLE.
In my 50 years of adult life I have had to deploy a firearm while in my car twice, never fired. Both times it was a 38 detective spcl. Last time was 30 years ago. Times change so need to amp up.
