I like pistol carbines with a forward flash hider to take the blast forward instead of the sides.
Definitely a pistol in that same caliber. 9mm is good enough.
Some folks think rifle calibers are needed. I’m not so sure about that since those are longer distance rounds and cumbersome to take out of your car.
The point is to escape not sustain a firefight.
Carrying a 9mm in car these days with a few spare mags, glock 19 FWIW or mp shield. I also have a Baretta 9MM storm carbine with a few spare mags along with a few boxes of 9mm ammo. Problem with a long gun is it difficult to maneuver in a pony car. The carbine is just about right sized for that. My ammo of choice is the FED 9BPLE.
In my 50 years of adult life I have had to deploy a firearm while in my car twice, never fired. Both times it was a 38 detective spcl. Last time was 30 years ago. Times change so need to amp up.
AC-47 has proven useful, when surrounded by men dressed in black.
“Any opinions?”
A remote control machine gun with video camera that extends up through your sun roof, 360 degree with tilt controls and watch the fun from the comfort of your car.
2nd option, wire a battery to an old ignition coil that connects to your car body and zap them with a few thousand volts.
Yes- Ruger or FN 5.7 pistol. I got a chance to fire one last week. All the recoil of a 22 cal pistol, with an armor (and windshield) piercing round that looks like a rifle round— necked down and pointed. Oh, and a magazine that holds 21 rounds.
Hopefully, that list is of items you already own. There isn’t much of a selection in the shops these days.
Personally, I carry my Beretta 92F with 2 15 round magazines along with 2 30 round mags. also a Kahr .45 with one seven round mag that would go to the passenger (If applicable).
Anything bigger would be unwieldy. Can’t shoot accurately and drive at the same time.

Everybody should be carrying in their cars to fight fire with fire.
Trying to decide:
1) Pistol
2) Pistol caliber carbine (9MM, 45ACP)
3) AR Pistol in 5.56mm
4) Short stock shotgun in 12 gauge
Any opinions?
All of the above. In case you have passengers.
