Three out of four Americans, including a majority of Republicans, favor requiring people to wear face coverings while outside their homes, a new poll finds, reflecting fresh alarm over spiking coronavirus cases and a growing embrace of government advice intended to safeguard public health.
The survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research also finds that about two-thirds of Americans disapprove of how President Donald Trump is handling the outbreak, an unwelcome sign for the White House in an election year shaped by the nation’s battle with the pandemic.
More than four months after government stay-at-home orders first swept across the U.S., the poll spotlights an America increasingly on edge about the virus.
The federal government's response is seen as falling short, and most Americans favor continued restrictions to stop the virus from spreading even if they might hamstring the economy.
Support for requiring masks is overwhelming among Democrats, at 89%, but 58% of Republicans are in favor as well.

The lady handing out the masks at Costco gave me a dirty look for saying “no” to my whole family, but that was about it.
I don’t want to believe those numbers, but I doubt they are that far off.
I am in Phoenix. A big city, but a western, non-coastal city in a part of the country that is more liberty-minded than the northeast or mid-west.
While we have NOT been hit with “Karens” publicly, they are out in force on Nextdoor, which I dropped from, as it was pointless. Compliance is very high in most larger stores, and women are in almost 100% compliance.
I am afraid that the MSM as a whole has persuaded a large % of the population that this thing is one step removed from ebola, and that we have moved from flattening the curve to a long-term new normal.
I also suspect that our reed in the wind governor, as well as normally sound guys like DeSantis are getting at very least polling info showing that a substantial majority wants this, including a significant part of the base. Combine that with giant corporations like Walmart, who want to have a uniform, nationwide rule they can easily absorb, ESPECIALLY if the small places have to play along too.
I don’t want this to be the case, but as Kroger/Fry’s folded as of yesterday, I sense the noose tightening. After there is enough general compliance, then the citations come, as they already have in “progressive” areas. I remain maskless, go where I can, but remain visible to the general public rater than hide just doing mail order. Our church is mostly anti-maskers, but that is far from a random sample.
I laud those who split the difference, and either wear the mask around the chin once entry is gained wherever they are, or wear something that is obviously not impeding breathing God’s wonderful air, as a mocking form of faux compliance. One friend of ours was instructed she had to wear a face covering, and her husband does not want her to wear a mask. She improvised and wore her lacy church mantilla around her mouth. No problem!
3 in 4? That’s 75%. And THAT is exactly what we should expect.
1/2 the American population consists of women. Hald the men act like women. There’s your 75%, leaving only 25% of us rational males.
My home Canada is definitely one of the more liberal countries on the planet, but even we haven’t politicized COVID 19 like the leftist media and politicians in the USA.
Most people are not anti-maskers.

Today was the first day I have worn a mask since the Scamdemic started. Indiana now has a mask rule.
I already have run into a mask nazi working at a local store. I informed the manger I will never set foot in that store again. She didn’t care.

If this poll were true, why are governors threatening further lockdowns citing people not wearing masks?

This virus is just running its natural course.. masks can’t stop it. My county in NJ is well over the worst of it.. new confirmed cases +1.2%.. deaths +0.8%.. And yet Goofball Governor Murphy recently mandated wearing masks outside.. with little emphasis on the small print (when maintaining a 6ft distance from others is not possible). Businesses and Veterinarian hospitals are still freaked out over an almost non-existent problem in NJ.
Sure, I’m certain there are some nervous Nelly’s but most of them stay home any way.
When/if they do stick their heads out their front doors and see kids on their bikes with training wheels, gasp, not wearing masks, run to their phones and report their neighborhood kiddies, now sitting in their backyard baby pools or running through the sprinklers, trying to have fun while keeping cool!
These same tattletale idiots aren’t smart enough to realize our local LEOs aren’t interested in arresting the kiddies or fining their parents who’ve been busy tending after their own kids while they attempt to work from home.
These parents are now learning their local unionized mobs (aka teachers) now known as fundraisers for the DNC “too scared to return to the classrooms unless they are bribed (er, given millions for teaching hoe fun it is having sex with transgendered teachers and administrators!)
The others, are those who demand masks for thee but not for me!
