Poll: 62% of Americans Say They Have Political Views Theyre Afraid to Share
Strong liberals are the only political group who feels they can express themselves without fear of repercussions, a new Cato Institute survey finds.
In a national survey of 2,000 Americans at least 18 years old, conducted July 1-6, 2020, Cato asked respondents to agree or disagree with the following statement:
The political climate these days prevents me from saying things I believe because others might find them offensive.
Sixty-two percent (62%) of Americans agreed, up from 58% in 2017, leading Cato to conclude that self‐censorship is on the rise in the United States.
Republicans were the most likely to be afraid to share their views (77%), followed by 59% of Independents. Slightly more than half (52%) of Democrats said they were afraid to voice their opinions.

This is a major reason why the “polls” showing Biden ahead in anything are so full of shi$.
In this descending America it took a lot of courage for them to even say they couldn’t say something!
That implies what they secretly think.
“Strong liberals are the only political group who feels they can express themselves without fear of repercussions”
Not with me they don’t! I send them away whimpering with their tail between their legs!
The Silent Majority is out there
And I’m guessing that these numbers are much higher but people were afraid to share. The brass tax is going to be how many are actually going to vote in November.
I post comments in a local online newspaper.
My conservatism is clear.
I have been reported to the HR at my company no less than 4 times as being a racist or something else.
The cancel culture is very real and these snowflakes cannot debate....they try to destroy you personally.
I use my real name because I will not be driven into a pseudonym out of fear.
That adds up to ....... LANDSLIDE...................
Question: The political climate these days prevents me from saying things I believe because others might find them offensive.
No, I could care less that they find them offensive. I’m far more concerned the bastards will destroy me, my life, my career, and my children’s lives.
I wear my red hat with confidence I will be ok. I don’t put a bumper sticker for Trump on my vehicle because who knows what will happen to it parked in a parking lot. If I got attacked going to my vehicle with a Trump sticker on it and defended myself as the situation dictated I would be arrested for hunting over bait.
Yet we have (paid?) trolls in here desperately trying to bring down the enthusiasm for Trump. They work tirelessly to push the media propaganda that Biden is winning.
Ignore them...they are fools. Trump wins this in a rout.
Liberals have always been the ones with the biggest mouths flapping about their beliefs because their ideas in practice do not hold water . They also have a superiority complex regarding them .
This tells me there is some hope for the nation going into the general.
I’m not “afraid” to share.
Where I live, it just a matter of not having the time or patience to deal with what “sharing” entails.
plus...
I like my car tires inflated.
“This is a major reason why the polls showing Biden ahead in anything are so full of shi$”.
Right on!
Not me. My Trump sign is front and center on my front yard. Also I go on the attack on my next door neighbor web site. People in my neighborhood know damn good and well where I stand.
I lot of this (I think) is a reflection of politeness as much as anything.
“I could tell someone I like Trump but (sigh) that will lead to an argument and it will bring everybody down. It’s probably best if I avoid politics and talk about traffic instead.”
or
“Damn right Trump is a Nazi! I’m telling the world! Eff you if you can’t take it! The only people who like Trump are racists and those people should all die! I’m not afraid to speak my mind! I’m right!!”
I don’t know if you are being sarcastic or not.
But, your last sentence sums things up quite well. We all like our tires.
More proof that Trump supporters are lying to pollsters.
